Quick question: My pan is rotting out. Is the transmission pan on the gas Libertys the same as on the CRD?

Thanks.

Short answer is no. Gas liberty's have a different trans (42RLE)than the CRD liberty's trans (545RFE).

***corrected the trans designation for CRD***

Thanks 03black. Glad I asked. Rockauto has 2, but sells the same part number for the gas engine too. I thought they might not be right.

I see lots of references to 545RFE but not much about the 54RFE. Are they the same, or same pan at least?

Should be the same pan. That trans was used in a lot different dodge and chrysler vehicles

Chrysler family of RFE transmissions:
Overview
Manufacturer Chrysler Corporation
Also called 45RFE/545RFE/68RFE/65RFE/66RFE
Production started ~ 1999

No such designation for 54RFE that I am aware of.

Opps, your right, I mistyped the designation...it should read 545RFE
Thanks for keeping me honest!

Thanks for the correction. Looks easy to find that one, IdParts sells a factory one for a fair price.

I have a stock OEM 545RFE transmission oil pan if someone needs it. I replaced OEM pan with a deep sump PML oil pan.
Stock pan is in perfect shape; removed from a totally rust free southern vehicle.
Will post a picture of it later today.
Small cost to cover shipping.
PM or email me if interested,

Just ordered one from Idparts this morning, but thanks for the generous offer. Hopefully someone else can use it - mine’s probably not the only one rusting out.

Two more questions, if you don’t mind.

1) The kit comes with a spin on return filter. Where is that?

2) Kit also comes with a pan gasket. Do you use that instead of silicone, or with silicone?

Thanks again.

Spin on filter is inside pan along with the flat suction filter. You will see it when you drop your pan.

Use the gasket along with some spray Hightack sealant on both side of the gasket.
or
use silicone only by it self, but do not use silicone on the gasket as it can make it squeeze out when you tighten the bolts.
Do NOT overtorque the bolts when using a gasket, it can damage the gasket.
or
If you want the very best oil pan gasket made, get a LubeLocker Transmission Gasket PN: RFE- LLT-CRFE, it has silicone embedded into the gasket material.
https://www.lubelocker.com/products/chr ... e-llt-crfe
It is the very best gasket for pans and differential covers I have ever used, fully leakproof and reusable. See picture below.

RFE- LLT-CRFE Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge RFE Transmission. Also Fits 68RFE, 66RFE, 65RFE, 545RFE, and 45RFE
