Not wanting to open the Pandora’s box on the virtues of oil….. but I run Mobil Delvac 1 ESP 5w-30 in my CRD that has 151k miles and I change it every 3500 miles. Thoughts?
Well oil certainly can be a Pandora's box;
Everyone has an opinion about what is the best oil for their engines and then along comes an Amsoil salesman pushing his brand oil.
Bottom line, do your own research and use the oil that best fits your needs and you are comfortable with.
My thoughts since you asked!
You simply don't hear of trucks with larger diesel engine running any 0w or 5w anything weights, they run heavier weight oils like 15w40 or 15w50 for millions of miles over the road hauling freight.
The only reason Chrysler/Mopar recommended using 0w-40 or 5w-40 oil in the Jeep CRD was to try and meet CAFE standards set by the EPA for the 2005 & 2006 models. It certainly was not for engine protection and longevity beyond warranty mileage!
Several years ago, quite a few owners including myself switched to using Shell Rotella® T6 15W-40 Full Synthetic Heavy Duty Diesel Engine Oil in their Jeep Liberty CRD. I now run this same oil in my Dodge Cummins, and my diesel tractor, I was running 15w50 Royal Purple in them but the Shell T6 is more cost effective.
