Dear friends,

After 279K miles the turbocharged developed a noise when up to 2K RPMs under acceleration. No noise at idling or coasting, nor when disconnecting the vacuum actuator. I did some research in the internet and found units ranging from $200.00 up to $1,200.00 from a variety of sources, but I could not find any information of the place of manufacturing.

Has anybody had experience with these "economical" replacements. Does anyone know if they are manufactured in China?

Any recommendation, and/or suggestions will be sincerely appreciated.

You might try reaching out to Joe Kirian at: Blackbird Innovations and seek his advice is on rebuilding your turbo.
He has rebuilt and upgraded some of them with improved components. He may be able to salvage yours???

Other best option is IDParts.com> https://www.idparts.com/turbocharger-li ... -2823.html
Stay away from the cheap Chinese knockoffs, they don't last.

Thanks, WW,
I agree with your recommendations.
I had to make a quick decision, for personal reasons, so my plan of action is:

1.- I order an "economical" replacement, not the cheap one but a mid priced one, that do not require a return of the core.
2.- Will contact Joe Kirian and negotiate for a rebuilt of mine. Except for the noise, it does produces a lot of pressure, and,
3.- Install de rebuilt one in a later date.

I know that I will pay twice for the labor for the replacement, (I do not have facilities at home do do it myself and the technician that I use is the one that was at the dealer when I bought it in Feb 2005.), but at the end I will have a reliable rebuilt unit installed, and an "economical" spare in case of a future failure. I just had a rebuilt ECM installed last February, and will like to get at least another 100K miles of the Jeep.

I did try ID parts and the offer two: one at about $1,200.00 and the other at about $700.00, but they do not have it in stock at this time.
