Post subject:  Trans shift cable
The plastic piece that holds the shift cable into the bracket is broken (the yellow part left of 7 on the blue cable below). There is a trail of discontinued and unavailable part numbers for the entire cable, until you land on $200+ parts that I'm still not certain are correct. Meanwhile there are similar cables for $20-30 that look right, but nothing has lengths listed.

Has anyone had to find an alternative cable, that worked? Or is this piece replaceable?

If you can't find a new cable, rob one off a boneyard car. Gas and diesel vehicles are all the same on this item.
52104320AA fits 2002-2005 according to Factory Chrysler Parts.com

Update, a 2006 cable doesn't fit without changing the brackets at BOTH ends. Transmission side would cheap and easy, but I'm not even looking for the one under the shifter.

Going to fab something to just sandwich the entire rubber piece at the bracket until I find a proper replacement.
