Just wondering...I read somewhere it was 24-25 pounds(MIGHT HAVE BEEN 28.5)...that seems awful high :?: but maybe a VGT works that way with a diesel :?:

While we are at it...what is the normal EGT temp that we should be looking for :?:

I have experience with race turbo Mazdas but not diesels. The turbo boost was much lower 12-16 and the EGT temps probably higher because of the properties of a rotary.

I see as high as 25 PSI in my Jeep. But that is peak for only a second or two. Most of the time is is at 10-15 PSI.

I do not have an EGT gauge, so can't comment on that.

I guess what I read was correct...with no waste gate high boost is possible.

Does the high boost reading occur at low rpm's during initial acceleration and then reduce with speed...seems the most logical :?:

I have seen it hold at 22psi, but I have not really smashed it to see it spike. The EGT runs between 600-800 on a load it runs up to 800 and holds, no mountains here, 90 degrees air on etc. so I am sure it could go higher, this is post turbo real close. This matches the external temps in the
latest Diesel Power Mag on Cummins and Power Strokes. I idle to get it down below 500 for a base. Does not move very fast from 500 down to 400 and it pretty well sits at 400 and it takes at least a minute every time to get to 400, sometimes to get to 500 so the wait times before shutting down, close, coasting really cools it down, 1/2 mile coast down to 400 every time.

I kinda remember reading in the owners' manual that it was supposed to peak at 26 psi, but us old geezers have notoriously flaky memories. ;-)

Ranger1 had an unfortunate happening of recording 75psi prior to his turbo seals being blown. So if your looking for max boost there's one that's off the charts. However, normally it should be in the mid 20's.
