Been doing a lot of reading about small diesels in development at DC, GM and Ford for light duty trucks, mostly small V8's and V6's. Me and my son went truck looking the other day and checked out the new Avalanche, my son is 5 and a motor head already. Anyways I wanted to see how the cylinder deactivation worked and found out that it works pretty sweet. But the really interesting thing is that there have been rumors about a small diesel for this platform with the release of the new model in 2007, when I looked under the hood I noticed it is set up for 2 batteries the only things that I could think you would need 2 batteries for is a snow plow or a diesel engine. I hope it means diesel, if GM comes out with a diesel in their light duty trucks then I think that you will see more options showing up from the other manufacturers.
The service manager at the Chevy dealer that maintains my other two vehicles hinted of a smaller Isuzu diesel for the 1/2 ton Silverado coming shortly. The 2 battery trays are standard fare for Chevy/GMC trucks. On my '97 Chevy 1500 it is a good sized underhood tool/junk box.
