I had a bit of a scare last weekend. I'd just come off the freeway after a 15 mile run and was going about 40-45 mph when there was a bang and it felt like I'd hit a deer or something. It was a nice, big, wide smooth straight-away and I double-checked to the rear - I didn't hit anything. It was an internal bang and bump. The CEL came on immediately. Shortly after, I came to a stop sign and the CRD had trouble getting going. It felt like it was in 3rd gear instead of 1st. As I got onto a high-speed road again it never would shift into high gear, so I limped home going about 50-55 mph and 2100 rpm. That evening I pulled off the CCV filter in preparation for dealership snooping. Next morning early I had it at the dealership. After that all-night cool-down it was shifting normally on the way in. Eventually, they had it ready. They said they had to replace a solenoid on the side of the tranny and it was good to go. Also, that the tranny did what it was designed to do - protect the tranny by locking into 2nd gear (sure felt like 3rd to me). The only good thing is I got new tranny fluid out of it. I have 14,000 miles on it. No issues with EGR/CCV, yet. I've run some mix of biodiesel about half the time. |

I was pulling out of a parking lot the other day. Mashed on the accelerator and heard a loud bang. It sounded like I got rear ended. No lights or other indications that something was wrong. As best I can figure, one of the wheels hit some oil or a paint stripe and the traction control went nuts for a second. Sure hope it's not something serious. My tranny is in the window for the TSB but the dealer won't do anything because I don't have any symptoms that are on the TSB. Maybe I do now. |

Welcome to the bad tranny club. This is what mine's been doing this since April. Mash on it, drops out of gear on the downshift, slams & goes. Met with the DC reps yesterday, finally decided to do the filter TSB as soon as their trans tech can fit it in. They also told me there will be a new transmission reflash TSB released shortly to address the 35 mph torque converter rough/sloppy lock-up issue. |

I should have been in first gear as I was stopped before I mashed on it. The bang did occur right as the turbo spooled. I went back to the spot and there is a wide section on paint stripe right where the wheel would have been. I will take it to the dealer and add it to the list of complaints. |

I will take it to the dealer and add it to the list of complaints. When mine did it, only took @ 1/2 second of nothing but spool-up, slammed into gear and left @ 10 ft of tire marks on dry pavement. I was encouraged by my meeting with the DC reps over the problem. Was some bickering over being able to duplicate the problem. I simply suggested that they just do the filter TSB and monitor the results as a cheap and dirty solution. They were OK with that. Afterwards, the DC rep also suggested sealing the bottom of the transmission dipstick tube with ATV (TSB from the Grand Cherokee). Apparantly if even virtually undectable amounts of water gets inside, this trans will do some strange stuff. |
