Post subject:  crd oil contamination fix

hi there
for all the ozzie crd drivers some info that might help (copy on the ausjeep board)

Ill start a discussion about the turbo diesel and there poor design.

After 45000ks and most of it towing a trailer (Tvan of course) engine
performance has dropped markedly, upon inspection the intercooler is full of blow by oil 2003 model picks up at top of engine and connects to the
air inlet pre turbo .

So all the crankcase fumes and oil contaminants are fed to the turbo charger
thru the intercooler and into the engine .
Problem is hot gases when cooled condense inside the intercooler slowly blocking it up .

VW have had the same problem with there turbo diesels they now fit the
following as oem Mann and Hummel Provent 200 http://www.mann-hummel.com/mhuk/upl...HBGDHjDBaVQ.pdf

This is what I came in here to ask about. :)

Has anyone in the U.S. fitted one of these ProVent filters onto their CRD yet? I'm wondering how exactly it connects inline with everything. It sounds like a good thing to do. If anyone knows anything more about this problem or the ProVent filter that can supposedly stop it let me know...

Here is a link to a HOW-TO for a Provent install on a VW TDI. The CRD is, for all intents and purposes, the same thing in this regard. The CCV is pretty much in the same location too...
