I've read elsewhere on the Interweb where other Liberty owners are reporting bad MPG ratings.

I managed a best of 23 MPG Highway on a 700 mile roundtrip recently. I would expect a vehicle this size/engine to be in the Mid-High 20's MPG Highway.

What are you folks seeing on yours ??

Compare and contrast the gas milage of other 4200 lbs vehicles, you will find that the MPG will be about the same. The only stand outs would be diesels.

That is our big downfall, weight. If the KJ weighed the same as the Cherokee, we'd get mid 20's easily. The Cherokee is around 1,000 pounds less than the Liberty.

Just got back from the beach last night. Good 200 mile trip, one way. a/c on, CC the whole time and I got a little over 20mpg. I usually average 13-14mpg around town, which 98% of my driving is around town. Got about the same results on the way back, went through some heavy thunderstorms so I had to take the cruise off, which yielded about 19.5mpg, still awesome for a two ton Jeep with the a.c on....lol

The Liberty is kinda a porker. It weighs about what a 1/2 ton truck weighs, and gets mileage like one...

I took a trip 2 weeks after i got my vehicle... left with 300 miles... came home with 3000.

On the highway there and back i got between 19-21.

Anything 15+ and I'm happy :)

Ditto. Keep in mind that the KJ is kinda like a 4,000 lb brick on wheels...it's heavy and not very aerodynamic, both of which hurt its mileage. It's also pretty peppy and handles well on the road so I suspect most people drive it in a "less than efficient manner." I definately have a heavy foot.

It's Jeep, what do you expect? If good mileage was important to me, I'd get a RAV or one of those Honda things. :D

I wonder why the couldn't have least offered us a slightly bigger engine- maybe a V-8 version. My 96 Tahoe weighs (curb weight) 4731 lbs, but gets 19+ MPG- easy 20 on the highway. My lifted Libby gets 15+ on a good day :(

Libby seems a touch more aerodynamic than the Tahoe, has smaller tires, and definately a smaller engine.

Could the extra Torque that the V-8 provide better gearing for the Tahoe?

Guys,
I weighed my CRD at a truck stop last night. 4960 with a full tank and an average load of crap in it.

I just turned 20,000 miles and did a 120 mile round trip on the interstate. Flat as flat can get.....in between Bloomington IL and Champaign. Yes Im lifted, bigger tires and all but Im used almost a half a tank of gas round trip. That's 14 miles to the gallon on the interstate. Before lift and tires I got 18.

I get 10-12 miles to the gallon in town.

PS : Getting ready to add the All J skid so we will see what that does.....

At a little over 12,000 miles on my lifted '04 Sport, I get 12-14 city and 17-18 highway. The best it has ever gotten was 20.5mpg before lift, and that was on a 250 mile one way highway trip with the cruise set at 70mph.

PAT,

What mods do you have on your CRD? If none, that is one heck of a heavy diesel engine!

Maybe it's driving style or something, but I just took a 1400 miles trip across county towing a 3000lbs trailer and averaged somewhere between 15-16mpg. I'm also lifted w/ armor. In the city I can typically get almost 18 mpg w/ mods but I drive like an old women most of the time. I've seen my milage easily go down to 15mpg by just having a slightly heavier foot. On the highway I can get 22mpg if I stay around 70mph w/ mods.

I had mine weighed at the dump with a full tank and my tool box and recovery gear and other junk that i normally carry I came in at 4629 lbs. Once when I was almost empty on gas and everything out of the Jeep I was 4000 lbs. I wonder how much mud I am carying around these days?

I had heard that the CRD engine weighed a lot more than the 3.7
