4,000lbs ??? Base curb weight for V6-auto-4x4 is 4,300lbs. My '04 with BFG 245/75-16 load range E (heavy) tires and '05 skids hits the scales at 4,480lbs with 1/4 tank of gas, that's with nothing and nobody in side!!! Those load (E) tires suck, one tire weighs as much as two stock tires, and I have 5 of them. Thats over 100lbs more in tires!!! '04 Sport 4x4 3.7 - auto 2" spacers LT245/75R-16 Airraid filter '05 skids 12-14mpg city / 16-18mpg hwy. |

On a good day I get 13.6 mpg and towing my 12' Pop Camper I get 10.3 mpg city or highway. |

Y'all are going to hate me for this... but I'm averaging about 18.5 for most tanks... about 1/3 city 2/3 highway driving. Last tank was 18.78 mpg, and this tank (a little more highway) will probably be over 19 mpg. Even towing my boat (22' 3500 lb Center Console) I seem to be getting ~ 12 mpg with the overdrive turned off and keeping the speed around 55 on the highway. Luis |

I am trying to decide between the Grand Cherokee Lauredo and the Liberty Limited. The reason for liking the Liberty is the fact that a V6 SHOULD get better gas milage than the V8. The 2002 Liberty I drove lastnight showed 15.7 MPH on the computer. That being it was driven around the dealership and extremely short trips like that. I am thinking of the liberty to quiet my right foot. Knowing the cost of gas, the milage, and the type of vehicle....I would have too slow down. The 2002 seems to be the worst gas milage of any of them...dont like that.

people need to understand just how big the libby is! its bigger than the cherokee, and has more steel added to the frame, that makes it the strongest jeep out there. It even has more cargo room than the 05 grand cherokee with the seats down. U all just need to see how big it really is, not how big it looks. IT WEIGHS 4600lbs! And yes a V-8 would probebly help its mpg bc it would not be working as hard to move it around, the 3.7 has to work hard to get it around, put the 3.7 in a light car and id say it would get alot better mpg. |

I read through the entire thread and everyone pretty much agrees that the Jeep is very heavy and that contributes to the poor MPG / KPL [kilometers per liter] I have owned my Jeep since 2002 and it's returned an average of 16.6MPG over those 3 years. Not bad. Now, Just for example of the bigger engine in a lighter car... Take my 16.6MPG and compare that with my 1989 Mustang 5.0L that gets around 20MPG average. It's a lighter car, with a bigger engine so it doesn't have to consume as much fuel to maintain speeds. |

My 72 Camaro witha LS1 and a 6 speed, i can knock down a 10 second slip at the strip and get about 25 miles to the gallon on the highway. |

Hmmm, My Grand National used to get around 28 on the highway... Although, not nearly as heavy as the KJ. When I junked the GN, I kept the engine... It would pretty much drop into the KJ without too much work other than changing out the computer and harness. Interestingly enough, the KJ has a 225V6 with 210hp/235ft lbs vs my buick 231V6 with closer to 345hp. Makes me think that if someone were to spends some bucks on the present KJ heart in stead of a transplant the enonomy would improve. I wonder what a stroker crank and a few other goodies would do for the 225?
