Because its a gasser. My brothers wifes Xterra gets 12-15 MPG. I friends Four(skin)Runner gets 16MPG, my buddies gasser Liberty gets in the 15 range. No gasser SUV dose well in the mileage realm.

Hey Guys
I bought my Liberty new in '05 and have 31,500.0 miles on her. I've kept pretty good records and my average MPG (city/town/hwy) is 21.56 for the total time I've owned her. I just sprung for GDE Eco-Tune, and I'm hoping the mileage will get even better.
Update
Well I've had the GDE-Eco Tune installed for about 6 months now and I've seen a 10% increase in Fuel mileage and much better response in the all-around driving. I made a trip to FL a while ago and actually saw 27 MPG on one tank of fuel!

I live in the mountains at around 3000ft, and the roads are steep, and most of my driving is between that and 4500ft. So, for me, with 265/70/15 tires and a 3" lift, my Limited gets around 10mpg. I dont really get to the freeways often so I dont know what sea level mpg or hwy mpg would be. Also, I have some really heavy stereo equipment (80lbs of subs, 70lb box, and the rest of the gear), so that may contribute to poor mileage too. oh yeah, the arb bump and winch also takes away. But I have a k&n filter, so I gain 1 mpg haha.

Was 20mpg with 99% highway driving during the summer. Now down to 18mpg or so due to cooler weather. It will get worse in the dead of winter.

The KJ is a heavy pig and as aerodynamic as a cinder block but I love the "Porky POS"......haha

Weight of the shoe has a lot to do with it..

Miss Leadfoot ;)

I might get 19 on the highway at a consistent 65-70 with no stops for anything but the next tank of gas

I think I actually average in mixed driving 16-17, it's been rare to have a mixed tank average more than 17.3

and i could really care less :)

partly leadfoot and partly where i live, i have to drive far to get where i'm going. i usually run 60mph in a 55. sometimes i run 65 or 70mph. gas where i live is almost $3/gal. overall i don't care what mpg i get with my liberty, i will still drive it!

215/85 e rated duratracs, no lift, 3.7 auto. I get 16-18mpg. Most tanks I get around 16.7mpg. I want to lift it and put soft8s on but I'm scared to kill my decent mpg.

Now since its summer, I'm starting to get 18 MPG. I'm happy with that since our Jeeps are real trucks unlike the Rav4 and Escapes that people try to compare the Jeep with.

Three tanks so far on 05 CRD, all over 500 miles:
28/31 (hand calculated vs overhead computer)
27/30
27/33 (not sure why the computer was so much off, this was 90% highway, so I expected a little better)

Stock everything. Looking forward to exhaust and GDE tune to increase mileage. I drive slow, this replaced a prius...which was rearended 3 times in 2 years, wanted something heavier for crash protection.

The more highway mileage, the more the computer is off. Gets a little worse after the GDE tune.

I was averaging 17 mpg city/highway then I installed a Frankenlift II and 245/75/16's one of which is on the roof and now I'm lucky to see 14 mpg.

Rock and roll!
