A big diff between my 3.7L Lifted/Armor/front and rear lockers/245-85-16s and the CRD...13.9 combined vs 19.39 combined=120 extra miles per tank so far ;-)

3) Stock
4) Amsoil Euro 5w40
5) 26-27 MPG (80% Highway, 10% City, 10% Gravel)

On gravel I lock out the OD otherwise excessive shifting since I don't usually go over 50 and lots of up and down hills. Highway I usually run no more than 65-67mph. Use B5-B10 biodiesel when I am going to go near a station that sells it, else I use straight dino I get at Walmart (so I can get the 3 cent discount on the gift card). Changing out the pumpkins and trans soon for amsoil synthetics. Running Bridgestone Dueler AT D693 rubber.

Pumpkins!!! The term "pumpkins" is normally used only for IRS type cars and in particuar the MB cars. The reason being for the name is the differentials on the MB cars look something like a pumpkin, the CRD doesn't fall into that catagory.  8)

Depends on how you drive.
It made the acceleration worse because it rev's pass the torque peak to lockup ~2200 rpm
however once locked - it stays locked up better.
once it's locked up it's the same before/after.

so in town - worse, highway no change
and irritated the heck out of me every time I accelerate.

While I don't yet own a CRD, I am in the market and I just wanted to say thanks for the thread. I'm a hyper miler with my TDI Jetta (65mpg av) so Im really looking forward to adding to this thread. I'd like to see a 40mpg CRD.

my best - with Lift, MTR's - ARB bumper - was 29mpg - running through Utah ~60-65 mph
that keeps the engine in the 1800-1900 rpm range, and outside of major aero effects.

so if you had low rolling resistance tires - maybe lowered - or at least stock height.
and maybe a full belly pan - even if it's coroplast and you keep the engine about 1800

I think you'd be close.

oldnavy used to hit 30+ and he was fairly stock

AT, I'm sending ernest money to a LOST member to hold his CRD for me until I can get to him to buy it. Ill be driving it home to Seattle. I'm pretty good at getting high mileage numbers. Ill post them after i get home. It's already got an Inmotion stage 2 with a Suncoast TC and shift kit. Do you think a high flow CAT and 3" exhaust will open the MPG's?

Well - no one's mentioned that combo -
however my guess is that mileage will be a little better - but throttle response will be great!

most of the folks going from standard exhaust - to aftermarket noted a slight mileage improvement ~1-2
and that was from a 2" muffler to 2 1/2" but the less the restriction - the better the performance.

so keep notes and tell us what it does.

Well Im happy to be home. Final mileage report for the Jeep KJ CRD is as follows.

Tank one 37.75 MPG
Tank two 28.65 MPG (Drove from Denver to Grand Junction at 75 mph)
Tank three 34.55 MPG
Tank four 36.23 MPG

That bugger last tank I was trying for over 38, but I hit a constant head wind from Spokane all the way to Snoqualmie pass and that knocked her down to 36.

All in all Im impressed with the power and the mileage.

Tom

05 CRD best mileage was 30.3 mpg at 63 mph from Mackinaw, Mi to Marquette, Mi in 09 it was warmer that year but from Detroit to Mackinaw going 77 mph we got 28.9
I had the grille blocked and pulled the fresh air snorkel off the air box (only when the temp is below 50 degrees ) and duct taped the fresh air feed closed. The jeep has 235/75/16 michelin ltx m/s2 at 38 frt. and 34 rr. and it has the strut lift plate so it sits level. Also I clean the map 2 or 3 times a year I think it helps.
