Post subject:  13mpg?
I know I lifted it and I shouldn't :cry: but really 13mpg on my last three tanks and only going 150 on half and tank witch tonight was 30 bucks for 168.2 miles
So how many of you guys and gals are getting 13-14mpg.

What kind of roads are you driving on, around town up here I get 12/14 on the open highway 20 or so, down in Southeastern Ohio drops to 16/18 in the hills/backroads

How long since the last tune up and what kind of plugs are you using?

I'm getting 15 or less consistantly, even when I peg about 2700 RPM during acceleration, all the way to road speed, which is 60 mph @ about 1800 rpm. I run my share of errands in town, but I really try to watch it. Most of my driving is three patches of 4 lane road, with only one stoplight and two on ramps. It is about a 10 mile drive. The other third of my driving is probably 3-10 mile trips, mostly on similar roads plus a small stretch of surface streets.

I think I've got something going on too...

One thing I notice is that if I'm going 60 and let off the gas, I decelerate much faster than I'm used to in most vehicles. I don't coast for crap. It drops from 60 to 50 pretty rapidly, and it seems to want to downshift and keep me at about 1700 to 2000 RPM...

Last tune up was less than 20k ago. Im 50/50 highway and back roads with some hills in the shenandoah valley. trips over the mountains to Morgantown, WV are Killer I can really tell the jeep is under power with the 245/75 load E's.

On my last trip in the mountains down a 7% grade I was slowing down with my foot off the gas. It wouldn't coast at all even down hill.

Mine coast down the mountain today to Durango just fine but i was only getting 12 mpg on the way out here from kansas fully loaded with the roof rack full.

Where do you buy your gasoline? I started going to Shell as they do not put ethanol in the gas. I went from 15 to 18 just by doing that. Took about 3 tanks of the good stuff to get the improvement to appear.

I get around 15mpg, and I'm 80% urban/in town. All traffic lights, all the way, everywhere. I would get around 20mpg if I did an entire highway trip, and that was on what I discovered to be on badly worn plugs. Just changed those out so I'm hoping to see a slight improvement. And anecdotally I have. It's just too soon to tell. Need more sample tanks.

In the city I usualy get 14.5-16 MPG. And my drive to work is 4.5 miles so I barley get about 50. On the Hwy I see usually 17-19. The summer has deff droped my MPG. Iam thinking for my next tires Iam trying to get some lighter ones to see if there is any difference in weight. Iam sure it would show some type of an effect. I have a bds lift with MOABS on stock tires.

i get right around 15mpg highway and in town... but that's with full armor, frankenlift, roof lights, 200lbs of bumper/winch, 80lbs of subwoofer and box, steel wheels and very very heavy 265/75/16 mud tires so i'm not complaining.... especially not complaining since the stockers mentioned above are getting the same mpg :)

and i do need to regear... sooner or later i will but for now its still not impractical to drive so i'm not too concerned about it.

Interesting, summer usually improves gas mileage because engines come up to temperature faster.

I have never heard that. And I always warm my car up for at least 5 min before I drive anywhere so that may be a reason for not seeing a difference. But I dont see how the summer would increase mpg. The intake air temp is going to be way hotter which would in all theroy give you worse MPG. If getting hotter temps mean better gas milage, what would be the point of drawing in cooler air to the intake?

I have a scanguage and I installed it probobly 3 months ago. For a while I was running below 90 degrees on air intake temps now that summer is here its never below 120.

Set you air venting system so that the AC compressor doesn't come on. That's biggest way to increase mileage. The comprseeor comes on for several settings whether or not is shows as being on on the snowflake button.

When I realized this, my mileage increased from 14.5-15.5 mpg to 16-17 mpg by only using settings where the compressor is off.

Of course on the hot summer days I still run the AC thereby lowering mileage.

I almost never run my air conditioning. I usually roll down all windows for the first mile to cool the car off then roll them up to about 3" open on all four windows. It is not overly windy or loud so I assume the drag isn't so bad...

Things I think may be hurting my milage:

1) Brake drag - much squealing at low speeds after braking

2) Factory plugs and I just hit 50k

3) Air filter: should I be running an amsoil air filter for daily driving?

4*) Coasting - Coasting was horrible, if I had let off the gas the MPH dropped really fast, almost like braking a little. Slightly noticable improvement since I changed to a 14" Magnaflow exhaust.

5*) Early downshifting: If I'm cruising at 55 & 1600 RPM, when I coast from there it coasts in OD until I get to about 1200 RPM and then it downshifts. It follows this pattern of shifting all the way to stopped. Coasting or braking. It is pretty noticable and seems strange to me. I'd think it could wait until 900 RPM to downshift and it would provide better economy. Is this normal? Is there any way to tune this down?

Mine is a manual transmission so I just put in the clutch when coming to a stop or on hills sometimes. I don't do coasting much...too slow for me.

im getting 14.6 mpg over my last 6 tanks of gas and i drive about 50/50 city, highway. i never use my heater or ac unless my girl is in the car :roll:
