first let me say this is a great site, i have been trolling around for a while and now i have a question that i couldn't find.

My question is for the people that have switched from the stock 225/75R16s tires to 245/70R16s, have you noticed any decrease in fuel economy? My GF and I are thinking of doing this to here jeep but are worried that it might make the bad fuel econ. even worse. Any info will help thanks.

I can't tell you about 245/70's but when I had 245/75 MT/R's there was a drop but how much I could not tell you since I drove off the dealership lot with the MT/R's on(and 3 miles on the KJ).

Either way you will loose some mpg's and power due to the added width(more rolling resistance) and added tire weight over the stockers.

Mine Had 235/70/16 when I bought It. And the tires That I run on the street now are 245/70/16. I Did not notice much difference in mileage. Now when I put on the MTR'S 245/75/16 to go to the trails I get a bigger difference. But they are E rated and heaver with the steel rims.

I went from the stock 225/75/R16 garbage goodyears to 245/70/R16 Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo's and noticed maybe 1/2 mpg drop (but nothing scientific to test/verify that). I also noticed much better ride, far better traction in all conditions, and better appearance. The difference in diameter was negligible (like 1cm to overall diameter). I'm guessing the milage difference was more going to an AT than from 225 to 245.

When the speedometer says 75, I am doing 72 by all GPS's I have used. Saves on ticket expenses I suppose.

There really wasnt a drop for me going from 225s to 245 70-16s. I felt a tiny power loss from the taller much heavier tire, but other then that it was nothing but pros.

Mine: 06 CRD Limited with 67k miles bought new. I'm running that tire size on my 06 CRD and haven't noticed any diff. in milage.

I've had my 245/70 BFG All Terrains for over 50,000 miles already. My MPG readout says 15.9, and i never reset the thing.

check the tire weight - stockers are 26-27 lbs/ tire
a 245/70 can be 40+ lbs/ tire, BFG's are 44lbs
- that's a significant difference accelerating and stopping.

burns a lot of extra in stop & go driving - not so much steady state - highway.
so how you drive is significant.
