The turn off is about 35 miles east of Pahrump on Highway 160. It is located in the Spring Mountain National Recreation Area so camping is allowed right there. There is also a group camping area designated where there is room for a bunch of people to camp. I'll stop at the Ranger station next time I'm out that way and post what they say if everyone is interested in more details about camping. It does get pretty cold there in the winter (well cold for Vegas :D , down into the 30's in January with daytime temps in the 50's).

The trail its self is about 20 or 25 miles (I'm guessing here). It's mostly single track dirt road. The fun stuff is just a few miles of the total trail. The group ran it to Red Rock 3 hours. If we are doing it as a group, it might be fun to stop at Bonnie Springs after we leave Red Rock. It's a recreated Old West town. In fact they have a motel there too so if there are people in the group that aren't into camping they could stay there and meet up in the morning. It's about 25 minutes or so from the turn off into MSNRA. Here's a link to a review to give you an idea:

http://travel.latimes.com/destinations/las-vegas/hotels/bonnie-springs-motel/review

There are a number of other trails within the MSNRA but I haven't run them yet so I can't report on what kind of challenges are offered.

This trail is pretty close to my house so I am down to run it anytime :D.

Sounds cool. If there are other trails to include we could make an overnighter of it for sure. We will have to see if we can get some interest from the So-Cal folks.

There are other trails in the area. Wheeler Pass is in the same general area. I will check it out in the next little while and post up some pics. I really don't know what kind of terrain is involved so we will have to see what it looks like. I am sure we can find plenty of trails to run (especially if you like the desert :D ).

red rock is five miles from my house, so anytime you want to go, let me know! bonnie springs has a very small zoo with local wildlife too. fun for the kids.

I don't know if we are allowed to hang out with you now that you've gone to the dark side  .

We'll definitely have to meet up and hit some trails again.

I took my wife out to that spring you showed to Mike and I and she thought it was pretty cool. My pug puppy had a great time running around until he slid into a cactus (Ouch!). He had never been out of the back yard before that. Lesson learned  .

NNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOO not green valley! JK, it is a nice place to live. Only think I hear a lot about that area is location of grocery stores. There are only roughly 5 in all of the henderson area.

One of the many reasons why I live in the NW, larger lots of land and horse country :) Not that i have a horse...
