Deer Valley Trail
The trail is located in the Sierra Navada mountains near Lake Tahoe Ca. between Hwy 88 and Hwy 4.
The trailhead is just south of Carson Pass near the Blue Lakes recreation area.
The trail is rated MOST DIFFICULT and very much resembles the Rubicon Trail.
Trail length is 6.5 miles. It took me 4 hours to run.
From the trailhead to Deer Valley is rough but doable for most built KJ's. This could be run as a turn around (at D.V.) and combined with the Strawberry Pass trail.
From D.V. to Hwy 4 is the roughest and may be a good challenge for a KJ. There are no impossible obstacles. As of 9/2008.
The trail style and scenic rating are an awesome 10. It's a great trail.
There are great camping places in Deer Valley, which has a large river flowing through the middle.

Oh man I am going to have to run this trail. It looks great! Gotta get a rear locker first... maybe.

So when was the last time you ran Slick Rock or have you. I want to know how the two compare. Slick Rock had that one gnarly obstacle at the end but the rest was really KJ doable. So if the two are somewhat comparable, then the more likely I'd be willing to give it a try.

Either way, killer pics, looks like a blast. Can't wait to give it a go.

Strawberry Pass Trail

The trail is located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains near Lake Tahoe Ca.
Trailhead is located on Hwy 50, 1/2 mile west of the village of Strawberry. Tract #42. (See photo on slideshow)
The trail is rated MOST DIFFICULT, but not extreme. Suitable for most built KJ's.
Trail length is 13 miles and takes 3 - 4 hours to run. The trail meets Hwy 88 at Caples Lake near Carson Pass.
The majority of the trail is MODERATE 4x4 with a 2-3 mile MOST DIFFICULT section.
The trail style and scenery are an awesome 10.
Elevation - 8000 ft range.

Strawberry is a fantastic trail. Want to run it again as well. Not too tough for a built Kj at all. I see they have placed a bunch of boulders on the top near that boulder that gave our KJs some trouble. Bet they helped. Funny how different the trails become even after such short periods of time. Great shots.

I ran it 2 years ago. The Slickrock has 2 major obstacles - the "V" knotch and the "stair steps".
I think D.V. is more challenging overall, and is longer.
Deer Valley doesn't have any extreme obstacles, but 6.5 miles of hard 4 wheelin. Like the "V" notch stuff in several places.
You can go to Deer Valley, then decide if you want to go further.

Sounds good. The V wasn't bad I thought, the staircase was a beast though. A rear locker would have helped that for sure. The V was a close call on the left side going down but not too bad. I want to try and get as much wheeling in before my twins show up and take up all their daddy's time. :D

Have to hit up some other locals and juice them for as much info as possible.

This trail could be run as a connector route between the Strawberry Pass and Deer Valley.

The trail starts at Red Lake just east of Carson Pass on Hwy 88 and ends at the Blue Lakes recreation area.
Trail is numbered as county road 13.
The trail is rated 2 WD.
The road goes up into the alpine area above 9000 ft.
Trail length is approx. 8 miles.
Scenic value is an awesome 10.

Yea, your kids will take up about 35 years or more of your time. Mine have taken 20 and still going strong.

Highland Lakes

These lakes are located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains off of Hwy 4 just west of Ebbett's Pass. Road is well marked.
Rated EASY 2 WD. Trail length is 5 miles.
The lakes are in the alpine reigon near 9000 ft.
There are several excellent camp grounds along the road, the best are at the lakes.
It looks like you can hike to the top of one of the volcanic peaks near the lakes. Also there horse riding stables there.
Scenic rating, an awesome 10.

Dude, what's the deal? Did you decide to hit every trail I and lake I wanted to check out over there? Both times I passed the turn off to Highland Lakes I wanted to go check it out. Now I want to even more. Beautiful.

I've passed it a few times also, but had to do it this time.
I'll post some Shaver Lake trails later.
There's been alot of buzz about these trails, I was up there in July - so I'll post em.
