We spent this past weekend (May 16-17) in Northern Michigan. Hubby and I went on a 2-day trail ride offered by the owner of Sandy Korners in Silver Lake, MI. Jack Warfield is probably one of the nicest guys in our hobby that you could ever meet. He’s been trail riding in Northern Michigan for the better part of 27 years. The group on this trip was small – 6 Jeeps: four Wranglers – various years, various mods, a totally stock 2008 KK and my 2002 KJ Renegade.
First day of the trip we covered approximately 125 miles. The trails wound through the Manistee National Forest. This was the challenging day. It had been raining quite a bit the past week and the trails were quite muddy – even the “big boys” got stuck.

Even had to deal with some unexpected obstacles. But Jack was prepared!

Day two was more scenic.

We got to spend some time on the obstacle course over at Ellen’s Corners (corner of M-115 and M-37 between Cadillac and Mesick, Michigan). That was a blast!

Jack is running a few more of these trips this year, along with a trip up to Drummond Island in June and one out to Moab in September. (Shameless plug time: Sandy Korners ) 8)

Thanks!

We're going to have to head back up that way sometime. According to Jack, there are approximately 10,000 miles of public ORV trails in Northern MI (including the UP) :D

Man it must be nice to have that many miles of trails around. We have to drive two and a half hours to hit any trails on thats only 320 acres. :(

Well, you're still closer to most trails than I am. It was about a 6 hr drive up there from Chicago.

Post up if/when you go again. I'd be interested.

I'll let you know if we go again this year. After our big vacation around Moab in July, time-off will be pretty scarce. :(
