Post subject:  Reno Rocks 4x4 event (tons of pics)

There is a thread in the Nor Cal section about this event. I figured since there will be a lot of cool action shots and some amazing rigs, I post up some info and pics in here.

Some info about the event:
The Sands Regency Casino is hosting Reno Rocks which is a gathering and contest put on by W.E. Rock and a couple other off road event companies that local club guys and pro level guys can compete in and show what their rigs are made of. There were Show N Shine, Ruff Stuff, RTI, Teeter Totter, and Rock Crawling courses that people in 3 different levels can compete in for the first 3 days of the event. Modified, Super Modified and Unlimited classes. After Friday, the Pros take over and they run one class as far as I know. So for the first 3 days each class had its own course to run in 10 minutes. I was a crawl judge for the Super Modified class. The crawl courses gave everyone grief and only 1 rig in the Unlimited class finished their course, 3 in the Super Mod class finished and none in the Mod class finished their course. They were all built tough and no one finished the course unscathed except the one guy from the Unlimited class. Wed, Thur, and Fri are all local club comps and then WE Rock takes over for the Pro circuit on Sat and Sun I think. People from Japan, Mexico, Canada and the US are competing. It is going to be nuts. I'll post pics and info for the event after each day of competition.

Some teeter totter and RTI shots. None of these shots are mine since I was running around the crawl course.

This is a local guy named Jeremy. He was featured last weekk on Extreme 4x4 on TV. His single seat buggies with no TCases are sick! He is the only one that finished the Unlimited course.
Image

anyone can have a shot at the teeter totter
Image

The guy that built my rear bumper built this jeep.
Image

This is one of the guy's jeeps, Tony, who I get my RE parts at wholesale prices from. I'll try and find the other guy's jeep, John, as well. His YJ is nuts.

This guy was doing great but broke down and had to be DQed. He was running the course I was working.
Image
this is him after he broke and in front of his rig is the "easy" course that no one finished.
Image
Me and a photog talking to the driver about his breakage.
Image

The "easy" course again. Doesn't look hard but it gave every single person grief that ran it. Even the guy with 33s locked front and rear had to be strapped off.
Image

This is Lil Rich's insane buggy. You can see it on top of the rock in the pic above. Here he is doing a burnout on the big center stage rock.

My buddy Mike, who is 6'4" and a Pirate Stack in the parking lot. The 2 jeeps are Tony and Johns, the guuys who hook me up with RE goodies. :D

Modified course-easiest

Unlimited course-hardest

Super Modified course-middle Some might recognize this jeep from the trail run I was on. His name is Denny, and was there when I gouged my passenger front door on a rock.

This guy rolled on his side on the first obstacle on the Super Modified course. He spent 5 minutes, of the allowed 10, working to get righted and off that obstacle. He finished the course with 34 seconds left. It was pretty amazing, but his rig, which was in great shape before the run, took a nice beating.

Sweet FJ running on my course, one of the 3 to finish it.
Image

Lil Rich showing off for the crowd.
Image

This guy's rig took a beating as well. He has had the jeep in his family since it came from the factory. He smashed the passenger rocker to pieces, literally, after came over this rock in the pic.

RTI beast

"O" face
Image

This was one of the most tricked out jeeps I've ever seen. Turbo 4.0, Dynatrac Pro Rock 60s front and rear, complete steel body with fenders kit, etc etc. Amazing, too bad it was just a show truck and wasn't getting put to the test.
Image

I believe these guys would be competing later on, but just showing off the goods right now.

Yesterday the same contestants came back out to run the same courses, but run them in the opposite direction from the first day. After everyone went through again, the top 5 were given a 3rd chance and the course cones and barriers were all widened to encourage more throttle and faster course times.

These are Del Albright's set of pics from day 1. http://www.sendpix.com/albums/09061816/720jeloduw/?p=1
and day 2: http://www.sendpix.com/albums/09061910/wu8vkt6o5g/?p=1

Day 2:

Geoff came in 3rd and he didn't even finish the course twice. That is how hard the course was. He broke a driveline, front axle shaft and had some nice body damage.
Image
Image

This guy was representing the marines with his big flag on his YJ. He took 3rd in the Modified course.
Image
Image

Winner of the Super Modified class Denny, who had an Atlas II T Case and knew how to use it. Really impressive. Those dents and scrapes weren't there before the event. I'll try and find some more actions shots of him.
Image

This is the guy that makes the doors I was considering getting. He didn't compete on day 1 but had some fun on day 2 o the easier course.
Image
Image

This guy has a YJ, with a CJ hood and grill, dana 60's front and rear, and a Corvette engine. He came within inches of rolling it at one point and then course time ran out.
Image
Image
Image

I have no idea what this guy was thinking, but he entered and ran on my course and never made it through the first set of cones. His entire exhaust came off, and he tacoed his from tie rod both within the first 3 minutes of competing. He should have been on the easier course, poor guy.
Image
Image

The CJ that rolled yesterday broke his steering bad yesterday. Locked both tires at a turn and had to be dragged of the course.
Image

2 nice rigs, one on the Unlimited and one on the Super Modified.

Winner of the Modified class my buddy Kanin. He had the same guy build his rear bumper as well. They are very similar.
Image
After he took poser shots for the event sponsors and got his $300 in prize money.
Image

Denny after doing the same.
Image

Third place in the Super Modified class.
Image

Jeremy took 2nd in the Unlimited course, by only 6 points.
Image

Rob, in his Dr. Smash built YJ, took 3rd in the Unlimited class.
Image

He and Jeremy getting friendly in the parking lot.
Image
Image

The winner of the Unlimited class with a near perfect final run, Derek Trent and his TFab buggy. He hit one cone, no barriers deductions, not spotter deductions and had no reverses on his final run. It was pretty amazing considering the course was as gnarly as it was.
Image

I'll find some better pics of him in action later.

There are more pics, but generally, it is more of the same. The Japanese team did roll while going over the big time obstacle. Put a massive tweak in the roll cage, but no one was hurt. I was exhausted from working those 3 days so I am glad I was able to get to vegas and relax some instead of sticking around for Sat and Sun. Great event!

I'm not sure if I ever did a disclaimer or not, but none, zero, of these shots were taken by yours truly. I was working the event and couldn't snap any shots. There are some really great shots though and it was my pleasure to share. :D

I will as long as I can play on the smallest course. I don't mind a little body damage, but the next course up, the one I was working, was a nightmare for damage and no one walked away with a little, everyone got a lot.
