So it was time to head off again into the mountains... been in one place too long
We packed up "Pinkie" and hit the road northeast to Leadville, CO. Of course, had we known that the Land Rover National Rally was in Leadville at the exact same time, we would have gone elsewhere.... oh well
This was the trial run of Pinkie's new safari top in mountain weather... it got interesting in the hail
It doesn't take long to get away from it all around here....
Once in Leadville, we headed up Halfmoon Road.
Searching for a good campsite...
Halfmoon Road is a very crowded thoroughfare for hikers and climbers going after Mt. Elbert and Mt. Massive. The nice thing about the trail is the series of obstacles that weeds out all but the dedicated off roaders. There is 1 small rock obstacle and 2 water crossings that get progressively deeper.
The second water crossing...
Found a campsite, and set off for some hiking...
As we were hiking around through the woods toward some mining ruins I heard some comotion and some very loud banging. We slowly went to check it out and was dissapointed to see one particular member from the Rover Group taking bricks from the mining furnace and throwing them at an old truck down the hill. Just another jacka$$ out on the trail
He was in this Land Rover
This is what he was up to:
So the evidence was collected (thanks to my 400mm telephoto lens) and has since been turned in to the forest service... not to let some douchesicle ruin my trip, it was off to the mill for some exploring...
Just where I left them...
They were too different to not try... not bad either
