Today I went to Durham Town Plantation with the local jeep club (Jeep Master Of Augusta aka JMA) to play in the Georgia red clay. Well having grown up out west this was an educational experience for me. Luckily We met up With JHBlackwell and his daughter. All in all it was a great time, though we spent more time recovering than wheeling, but what would you expect in clay pit during the rain?

Here is a look at Jeep eating ruts that come out during the rain.


With that in mind Mr. Blackwell skillfully avoids becoming the ruts next meal.


Next was the hill that only the Pink Jeep got up.... since the pink Jeep made it there are no pictures of her, we are wallowing in our sorrow with pics.

The next set of pics are of Trapper Dan, JHBlackwell, and the Green Machine going through a stream that would bet too deep to traverse were it not for the pile of logs stacked in it. It doesn't look like much from the photos, but could be intimidating in person...







If my commentary is overly annoying, well look at what time I posted this, I am a bit punch drunk. We had fun, I hope all of you had a good weekend.

It was a blast, and a challenge, and definitely something to talk about. Andrew did an exceptional job taking pictures considering it was raining the whole time. Unfortunately he didn't get pictures of the "Pink Jeep" which was driven by a young lady that would give yellocoyote a run for her money. Another balsy babe that has my respect and admiration. The picture of my Jeep coming out of the creek was my daughter driving for her first off road run...and she is now hooked...wants to know when we're going again. I love the creek picture with duct tape holding my turn signal on and a front shackle missing....the wheeling wounded, what I'm talkin' 'bout. I plan on heading back down to Durhamtown and checking out the rock climb area...when it's dry.

I didn't air down this time, and they did well. The time before I did air down and they worked great. Though this time out it was very wet. It had been raining all week, and was raining the whole time we were out, even Trapper Dan's Super Swampers were not up to the task, though if he had a locker I think it would have made a world of difference for him. The full pressure MTRs did much better than the my aired down AT's out in the West Desert mud (Bonneville lake bed) . Fortunately I already had a winch this time . The other I noticed was the soil composition made a difference too. If you were going up packed wet clay there was nothing to be had, but if there was just a little sand or decomposing foliage mixed (not sitting on top for the foliage) with it you had one chance to get things right before it got too slick.

Sho' 'nuff, grunt mud tires would have been hard pressed to climb some of that stuff. I love my MT/R's, but they're severely challenged in mud.
