I went out to the desert as I often do on a Saturday for a full day of high-speed thrills. The was about 12" of snow on top of some very snotty mud thanks to the temps climbing into the 40's. We spent about 6 hrs drifting around curves and giving the ESP light a real workout. I had to make sure that my rig was ready for the day:

timing belt well past scheduled replacement - check
leaking axle seal - check
tires that look like bologna skins - check
not entirely sure what mileage the oil was last changed - check
uncrustables - check
giant foam middle finger - check

Stopped along the way to check out an abandoned mine

Bustin' a move

Got much muddier as the day went on

The fun light went off when the trans temp light came on at this point. The KJ would not move anymore so I had to hang out for like 20 mins waiting for the light to switch off

This is what I was trying to climb when the light triggered

Weak attempt to go all Shutter Monkey with an iPhone

And the day ends with a 100% cedar fire... cause cedar fires are gangster

Playing in the snow is fun with a jeep. Sounds like you need that aux trans cooler.

I think traction would've gone a long way towards keeping things cool. My cheater slicks weren't the best choice for mountain passing. I was hammering things for so long that ESP just said, "eff it... you're on your own yo." I was also in part time racing at high altitude... not Black Bear altitudes but definitely higher than what passes in most states.

I plan to replace my belt in mid Jan and the tires mid Feb or mid March cause I can't slow down... I can't hold back... though you know I wish I could.

Thanks, yes... it's how I try to spend every Saturday... The wheeling all day part not as often but the campfire part in the evening probably 3x per month. If you're living in UT and you're not into the outdoors, you've made some poor life choices.

wish i could do the same. living in town and then the military owning all of the land out here kinda limits the fun of bonfires and camping. Eglin AFB is the size of rhode island, geographically the largest military installation in the world.

The Fed claims ownership of 65% of the land mass west of Denver... 2% east of it.
