I woke just as the sun was hitting the horizon. Not really knowing what kinds of views to expect, I got out of the KJ, grabbed the camera, and wandered out to the previously forbidden area to see what dangers awaited us in the dark the night before.

In addition to the rather impressive drop-off that we were now camped on top of, I could also catch the first rays of the morning sun. It made for some stellar color! :D

After grabbing a quick bite to eat and packing up a few things, we head out to find the trails. The idea was to keep the trails pretty tame as we had a long drive ahead of us... not only to finish driving the rest of the way to Santa Monica, but the whole trip back to Chicago as well. So we collective decided that some light wheeling out to Mussleman Arch by way of Shaffer Trail and White Rim Trail would be the way to go.

And the view from the bottom of Shaffer Trail, looking back up to the top... where we had just come from.

Heading back into Moab proper, we took the Potash Road... also leading us past some pretty sweet scenes.

We spent some time in town, grabbed some coffee, re-fueled and took the Long Canyon route back up to our camp.

Was hoping for a great sunset, but again, was greeted with overcast-ness. This second night at "The Spot" was significantly colder and more windy than the night before. We corralled the KJ and the Runner to try to block the wind to prevent an erratic campfire, and we were all forced into our warmer gear. I remember waking up early, early in the morning to the sound of rain... though it had stopped once we got up the next morning.

A few more images... these are the HDR shots that I didn't get around to processing till today. I'm not entirely happy with them yet (the first pic is the better of the the 3) - they are a work in progress. I don't work in HDR much, so I'm learning.
