Dear BRC Action Alert Subscriber, The seemingly endless Wilderness train moves on this week with several Wilderness bills scheduled for a hearing in the House Committee on Natural Resources. The committee is scheduled to consider the following: HR 3022 (Costa): To designate the John Krebs Wilderness in the State of California, to add certain land to the Sequoia-Kings Canyon National Park Wilderness, and for other purposes. "Sequoia-Kings Canyon National Park Wilderness Act of 2007" HR 2632 (T. Udall): To establish the Sabinoso Wilderness Area in San Miguel County, New Mexico, and for other purposes. "Sabinoso Wilderness Act of 2007" HR 3682 (Bono Mack): To designate certain Federal lands in Riverside County, California, as Wilderness, to designate certain river segments in Riverside County as a wild, scenic, or recreational river, to adjust the boundary of the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument, and for other purposes. BLUERIBBON COALITION ACTION ALERT! Dear BRC Action Alert Subscriber, Modoc National Forest Seeks Comments on Motorized Routes The Modoc National Forest is formulating a new travel plan that will limit ALL vehicle use to designated roads, trails and areas. On May 12, 2008, the Notice of Intent (NOI) to prepare Environmental Impact Statements (EIS) was published in the Federal Register, beginning the formal NEPA (National Environmental Process Act) process for travel management The Forest Service (FS) is asking for your input during the 30-day public scoping comment period, which will run through June 11, 2008. Four open houses to discuss the proposed actions of the Modoc National Forest's Travel Management are scheduled. These open houses are an opportunity to informally interact with Forest staff about the proposed actions and accompanying maps. The open house schedule is as follows: Monday, May 19, 2008 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Cedarville Ranger District Office 385 Wallace St. Cedarville, CA Tuesday, May 20, 2008 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Modoc National Forest Office 800 W 12th St. Alturas, CA Wednesday, May 28, 2008 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Adin Community Memorial Hall Adin, CA Thursday, May 29, 2008 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Honkers 810 Main St. Tulelake, CA The FS estimates they will be completed with the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) by September 30, 2008, with completion of the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) by the end of December 2008. I really hate to say this... but I just had to check out the website the FS referred to for maps etc. for public comment and it is not working (I'm shocked). Also if you plan on attending one of their 'informal' meetings, as they say, be sure and call ahead and confirm the address, time and date because somehow those get "mixed up" too (be sure and get names of who you talked to and ask them twice and keep a record). Let's keep nipping at their heels and don't give up! |

Just passing this along. Please email them or call... Urgent Action Required As a lot of have heard the BLM has closed the Clear Creek Management Area. They also seem to think that the only users of the area come from San Jose or Hollister. Well its time to show them they are wrong, and let the BLM know that the OHV community in the San Joaquin Valley is a very powerful group to be dealt with, and we will not be ignored. I have been receiving a lot of e-mails and requests from our members wanting to know why the BLM has not scheduled any meetings in the San Joaquin Valley. Needless to say we have asked Rick Cooper at the Santa Clara and Hollister public scoping meetings to have at least two meetings here in the valley. We requested one should be held in Fresno and one in Visalia. I guess that the BLM is not listening to the public. Its time to rattle their cage. What we have found out at the last two public scoping meetings that if you do not show up and give your public input, that later in the planning process you will NOT BE ALLOWED to give any input. We feel it is time to stand up and be heard loud and clear. Below you will find the contact info for the BLM Hollister field office. PLEASE NO MATTER WHERE YOU LIVE , take a moment from your busy day and e-mail or call the office and request that Rick Cooper hold two public scoping meetings here in the valley. Request that one should be in Fresno and the other in Vasilia.
