Yo Durangotang, you ever move to New Orleans, you've got a
job brutha.Hows a paramedic bend better pipe than some of my
guys.Mighta should've used rigid instead of EMT.1/2" rigid uses
a 3/4 bender,and can be welded.

Nice job bro...

Foot pressure is the key to not kinking yer pipe.Bend with your foot not your hands.

Maybe you can tell me then... is the "rigid" you are talking about the thicker stuff with the caps on the ends? You know what kind of metal they are?

Author:  KJ 119 [ Tue May 06, 2008 9:56 pm ]
Post subject:

Rigid is steel.
Same concept as EMT.
1/2" rgd. uses a 3/4" bender---subtract 6 instead of 5
3/4" rgd uses a 1" bender---subtract 8 instead of 6
1" rgd uses a 1 1/4" bender----better have some booty to bend it
Welds easy.To get notches use a 1/4" bit at desired angle
and add 1/2 diameter of hole saw cup to measurement then
follow through with hole saw.

May be tough to bend"might have to bounce a bit"
REMEMBER!!!! foot presure bends nice pipe, hands are to guide only

So, how much would you charge for a set of these? I could pick them up so, no shipping. I know it's only a matter of time before I hit some water too fast again and blow them off. I got lucky that most of the plastic anchors were still functional last weekend. Just not sure what to do about my bumper if I do put fenders like these on.

Well there's only one problem with that. I don't have the facilities at the moment to precisely make a product that I would be proud of. Yes, it would be functional. Yes, it would look good. But I can't sell something with my name on it until it's built to the specs that I would want. Probably sounds ridiculous but I assure you that I will let you guys know once I have the means of creating something that I would be willing to market.

what would you need? I work in a machine shop with welders, benders, lots of tubing and sheet metal. Also have access to MasterCAD/CAM.

Notcher, welder, and space is all I'm trying to find at the moment.

Not exactly sure what all we have at the new shop in GJ but, it's huge and doesn't have a lot of machinery, yet so space shouldn't be too hard to get. Welder is there. Don't know about a notcher but, I bet we could use a mill. Only downfall would be the 2 hour drive for you, though. I'll probably be making a trip down there in the next month or so to check it all out.

OK so I finally decided to get off of my lazy @$$ and see how the KJ does with some flat fenders. This is my second attempt at finding a deign that will work. The first ones I made were a very traditional angular model that just didn't work with the curvy KJ. So this time I'm going about with a very curvy design and trying to have it match the contour of the KJ....

This is just a mockup that I am doing out of materials that are easy to work with.... if I like it when it's done then I will go and weld up a sturdier version. Any feedback and design noted you guys have would be greatly appreciated.

The bumper obviously doesn't fit in with the fenders and that will be something to figure out later.

I'll tell you guys that I am sick of these compound curves!!

Sorry to say, but those are just ugly!
You should of just left the factory fender flares on.

You dug up an almost year old thread just to flame on someone elses work? Regardless of your opinion, that is low. A guy makes something new and different w/ his own hands and you flame him for it. IF you have to start a post w/ "Sorry to say" then maybe you really Shouldn't say anything.
Real Nice.

don't sweat that dude!

I dig the idea, i'd probably put some black diamond plate on it, squeeze some rubber weather stripping between the flare and the fender and i think it would look outstanding, i'd try to make sure not to cover up the rods cause i think that's a sweet part about it, it's certainly going to be a heck of a lot more durable than our plastic flares thats for sure!

i know the threads old, i feel like im missing something, are you still usin these or have you done something else now?
