I used the term 'skid' loosely on this one. That is more of a guard against things from poking a hole in the radiator. Road signs (usually 1/8" aluminum) would not work at all as an underbody skid plate. 1/4" would work with the benefit of weight savings, but 1/8"-3/16" steel plate would be best.

Do street signs make good skids? Any cons about using them?

love this question.................

I already have a full set of skids minus gas tank and the radiator skid that is listed as a replacement part, I was just curious as I've heard them being used before. I just didn't know how well they hold up.

ATH, good to know. Guess they're better to be used to slide up and down things rather than taking an impact.

Mr Helm, excellent work. Gas can rack? Is there a tube bumper in the works?

Thanks Brother!
This one's going to a buddy, he does want a jerry can mounted on it.

Rear tube bumper? Hmm... Maybe. There's a lot of ugliness to cover up back there, might be tough with round tube..

Parts of the stock facia with tube to make it protect and serve as a mount for all the other stuff!

Close up of the locking pin to keep it open. That little bracket is a ramp that the pin slides up and automatically locks with the spring loaded pin.

Cool, you do some fantastic work. Are you in the business of fabrication?
My garage is 85% unaccessable as we put our house on the market and started packing. All the boxes are in the garage with a walkway all the way around a mountain of stuff the size of a Liberty. :x

Thanks Candpliberty
I do all this on the side, working one or two days a week plus mornings aside from my 'day job'. A bumper gets shipped on average of every three weeks plus the racks, roof bars, recovery systems, and now the individual shackle mounts. Definetely keeps me busy. I started FB page under 'At the Helm Fabrication' but its basically the same thing as seen in this thread.

We sold our house and we'll be out of here in less than 30 days. Goodbye, Nevada! It's been 36 years! Hello, Illinois!

Nope. We'll be living in Foxlake right on the lake with some family. No garage but the grandson works at a custom golfcart fab shop so I'll have someplace to hang. I haven't fabbed nothing in 3 months. I'm jones-ing to put something together!!!

The long metal piece with the holes has "SWAG OFF ROAD FINGER BRAKE" stamped on it. I have no idea what that is!
