Nawwwwwww, been doin a little. Just concentrating on getting another job right now! Ran outta money for parts! Worked some more on the A-Arm pockets. My wife is now officially disabled with 3 inoperable ruptured discs in her back according to the Dr., so been taking care of her. Just wish S.S.D.I. would agree with the Drs.! :furious: Getting a lawyer to help with that now. They say it could take up to 2 years!!!!!!! :banghead: Just generally, life keeps getting in the way! ! ! ! Believe me, I wanna get this done too!! Like I said on another post, looks like TJKJ's estimate of 6-9 mos was closer than my 3-4 mos estimate!! :5SHOTS:

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. What kind of work are you looking for?

Thanks, I'm looking for an industrial electrician/maintenance/millwright/mechanic type position. Got a couple leads, put in a few apps, but nothing has come of them yet. I keep hoping one of them will call me back.

Breaking it down to simple terms it doesn't sound like much  ... just mount the new radiator, wire the starting and charging circuits, rewire for the new gauges and dash, replumb the fuel lines, fab new linkages for transmission and transfer case and have new driveshafts fabbed up! But .. each of those things entails several different aspects that will require time.

Motor mounts : Done
Crossmember: Done

Radiator: widen the radiator support brackets, figure out the actual mounts, get new hoses and replumb, add trans cooler and plumb lines to the transmission

Wiring: Decipher the existing wiring diagrams, remove unneccesary wires, tie in to existing wiring, wire new temp and oil senders, rewire fuel float, wire for new speedo and tach, wire for new MSD ignition system, wire for new electric fan and more I'm not thinking of right this second.

Fuel: Remove tank, replumb pickup tube tie in to existing fuel lines, install new fuel sending unit and reinstall

Linkages : Not sure what all this is going to take, at this point I'm thinking I may try and fab some new brackets and use the existing shifter and adapt to the C4 trans, same with the BW1354 transfer case, but when I get that far I may find I need to install an aftermarket shifter. If that happens, I'll go with a B&M ratchet shift since the C4 has a full manual valve body in it. The 1354 is a manual shift transfer case so it will have to be linkage too.

The driveshafts will be measured when everything is set and will be fabbed up at a local diveline shop here in Toledo.

There is a plan (kindof) for everything, it just takes a little (a lot) time and more money! Again this list is broken down to simple terms and even as I expanded on it there are thing that are not on the above list. It sounds like I haven't done a whole lot with everything left on the list but getting the motor mounts and crossmember done were major items that actually took quite a bit of time in themselves. After all, this is not a shop build! I am doing all of this on my own (with help from Tommudd and BugginKJ 8) ) in the driveway in front of my 1 car garage and winter is coming here! I didn't even have my own welder until about 3 weeks ago.

I'll keep posting updates periodically, Thanks everyone for your encouragement and well wishes for my wife.

Back to the job search!
Larry

Cool Larry. If you need new wires, check out Taylor SS's I believe, got them through Summit. They are like $40-45 per set, cut to length, etc. I've had 4-5 different sets from my 4.3L's, 3.8L in Bird, and both 350's I've had and they have always been good.

Go for it!!! But...... It's a lot of work. A lot to it. Mine's been down since last June. Money and a warm garage to work in would have helped to speed it along a little, but it's still a lot of work. I still have to completely rewire almost everything that goes through the PCM/TCM (because there isn't one anymore!). Starting circuit, Cooling fan, Charging, all dash gauges have to be completely rewired, Speedo, Tach. All the linkages for the new trans and transfer case still have to be figured out and fabbed. :? New throttle linkage to the carb. new radiator, mounts and hoses have to be done. New driveshafts have to be made. Getting the hard parts to fit (motor, trans, tranfer case) wasn't really the hardest part ... it's all the other little stuff.

Think before you leap! How much money do you have to put in to it? How long can it be down? Do you have a second car to drive while all this is going on? Do you have lots of friends with knowledge to help? What can you do yourself and what do you have to have made? Lots of questions to answer beforehand! TJKJ is still planning his I think, but he's doing his right! He'll have everything all figured out ahead of time I'm sure. I'm just kinda wingin it and when I hit a wall I figure it out then. Had to do a couple things twice that way, but..... :juggle: I'm figuring it out!!! :banghead:

Glad to see you are moving along again. I would have to agree making everything Big fit is a pain but the little things take longer getting everything to work. (I put a 302 in a ranger a few years ago)

i stuffed a 302ho in a older boxy ranger a couple years back, i'd def. say it was less of a tight fit than stuffing a SBF or 4.7 in the KJs

Yeh, I was able to get a V8 explorer radiator in it but no room for a fan so a used a pusher in front of it. But it sure was fast in a 2,300 pound truck. It would pull the drivers front wheel up with the right traction.

Just cut a hole in the house then put the Jeep in the living room. A nice cozy place to work on it! PLUS, you could watch Pittsburgh win the superbowl while working on the Jeep!
