I saw jereosbou's custom bumper (fabrication--new bumper) he made for his KJ and i liked it so i thought id try to make my own so heres what i cam up with please leave any suggestions they will be helpful :) there is a front hitch reciever on the front middle, and a shackle mount on each side of that and a bull bar on top that will have the corners bent just didnt do it since its made from wood for now i plan on using a 3/16" 2x6 for the main part and 1/4" angle iron to mount it 2 1/2" round tubing for the bull bar the shackle mounts will be 3/4" i really like it i just hope it comes out when its metal  anyways heres my idea thanks for all your help!

The idea is sound but the Collision centers are saying if the stock bumper was 1/8 and you use 3/16 it could cause more frame damage or uni body damage than you want/ most bumpers are 1/8 and with that much metal
it will be the body / frame to take the hit. also the weight is to much.
I found out the hard way 3/16 so I used 1/4 for bumders and it lost 1" of lift.

i say go for it i only lost about a half inch lift with mine it only weighs about 75 or 80 pounds an arb with winch would weigh more by far.... now also make sure before you start youve taken a look under your stock one to measure how it will al fit up etc... im going to be doing some work on minre this weekend and have to take more detailed pictures for another member and some measurements i will post them in my original thread so you can see a little more what i was doing but i certainly like your design and when i add a winch to mine it will be in a similair design to that one.....

it shouldnt really do any damage if any i would think but i dont know for sure and what about Rock Lizard theirs is 3/16" and the ARB is the same i think that pretty much all aftermarket bumpers are made from 3/16" thanks for the heads up though :) i will try to make the bumper lighter if i can i might just use 1/8" it would save alot of weight and it would still be strong

Stick with the wood bumper. Lighter, redneck look, and if you get stuck, you can toss it under the tires for traction.

I think RL will be going with 1/8 on the bumper shell, much like Ted's and using 1/4 on the frame part of the bumper to save on weight.
