They are to a point, remember they give you at least another 2:1 gear reduction so if the axle ratio is 3.55:1 then add the portals on you have a ratio of 7.10:1,not to street friendly unless you are running 44" or bigger tires.

You can drive a unimog on a highway at about 60 mph..... with a tailwind.....downhill. Doubt the axle configuration has that much to do with it, though, more likely the "brick flying through the air" profile.

Some of the newer UniMog's have crawl ratio's that are in the area of 3000:1,unlike our KJ's with about 30:1-35:1 range.Gearing is there problem, same with the Hummer H1's,before the overdrive tranny 65mph was max, overdrive tranny about 80mph.H1's use a portal at the ends of it's CV's,3.54:1 diff gearing and 2:1 for the portals(called geared hubs for the H1).

Dang thats pretty. Sorry to hear your not going to get the additional income and perform your mods. Please allow me the time frame when it would be acceptable to come down to the Springs for a visit and some educational veiwing. I'm still rather Green as to your mods but I'm very eagar to learn and visit with you all. But knowing you are running a business I don't want to intrude when your busy and jostle your elbow while your working  8)

forgive my ignorance but what is the purpose of the smaller bar attached to the pinch weld? Is it structural or just aesthetic?

It's structural,it mounts the rock rail to one of the strongest parts of the unibody, the pinchweld, which it also protects from damage.
