Great job, how hard would it be to change back to seats? Could you lay down back there? I like it but would like to have the option of seats if needed.

Great job, a couple of questions, how hard is it to put the seats back in? And can you lay down in back. Also when will you buy a welder, alot faster than bolts.

Just ran across this. It looks fantastic. Did you ever post drawings/measurements/cut lists, etc? I think this is the perfect solution for me. I use the back seat most of the time, but when the wife and I head for the hills it would be easy to change out and have tons more functional room. I would be interested in any advice, lists, recommendations, etc. that you can offer on the project. I don't have a welder either, but I could get my brother or father-in-law to weld it up for me (I would have to drive 400 miles to get it though). Bolting might be a good option for me. Have you noticed any of the connections coming loose since you have had it in for a little while now? Did you use thread lock or nuts with nylon inserts?

I just spent 3 nights in the back of my KJ. I'm short, 5'8". I used an air mattress to lay on. I moved the drivers seat all the way forward, seat back in the upright position. I put the mattress down from the drivers seat to the back passenger corner. It worked just fine.

You have talked me into it
Back seat is removed ........
Going to work on the framework and legs in the coming week after work
About how many feet of square metal did you use ???
(Guess those measurements would come in handy too when you get a chance...)

It looks Fantastic, not practicle for those with little ones, but for singles to 2 occupant rides it's incredible. Great fit and finish, if it's as good as it's look in the pic's it will be fun to drive into a Dealership and declare you bought this Jeep a few years back and can't find the reported rear seat latch!!! Then stand back and have some fun. But don't break into a smile just keep the joke going demanding this is the way it came off the dealership floor.
Just another way to have a good time at the dealership. :-)r :-)r :-)r :-)r

Very cool, I might consider doing that one day, would be great when travelling.

One thing I was thinking, it would be cool to put a hinge on the top board, or maybe split it into two doors for easier access to the stuff below.

It looks like I will be busy! Other than aesthetics, why did you cut the top of the backboard (corners) at an angel? I will be doing all of mine with the basics, hack saw, skill saw and an electric hand drill. :(

Not around here. We do have a couple of "Metal Fabrication" shops here. I'll check them out.
