See if there are any metal scrap yards around you. For the small amount of material needed for this project you may find what you need at a very cheap price. They may crush everything that they get for recycling, but I used to shop at one the pulled out the longer pieces that were in good shape and sold them. They get a much better price than if they sell it for scrap. It's worth a look around anyway.

Post subject:  QUESTION

Has anyone thought about hinging the back part of the deck? It would make it real easy to access the stuff under it.

My plan was to split the deck in half and hinge it in the middle so that you would have access to the floor from either of the rear doors. Also, if you had stuff piled on the deck, you would only have to move half of it to gain access.

What thickness of plywood are you guys using for the deck? I am assuming that you are recessing the frame by the thickness of the wood and carpet so that you wind up with a nice flat surface?

If someone goes ahead and makes theirs with the hinges please add pics. Any other variations should be posted also. I got the metal at a metal fabrication shop. Now the slow work part starts.

Really liking this mod and wishing I didn't have a need for my rear seat. I am contemplating doing it w/ the 60% side only and leaving the jump seat in there for the occasional passenger. Anyone tried that? Then again, not even sure if the rear seat comes apart so you can keep one side...... hmmm...... sawzall.......hmmm

What would be really cool is do the flat deck mod on half of the back seat area and then mount a full sized front seat in the rear on the other half. I haven't looked at the seat mounts, but I am sure it could be done. Probably way more complicated and trouble than it's worth, but it would be cool. Your 3rd passenger would appreciate it too. That's the very dilemma that I have. I rarely have more than 3 people in the vehicle at one time. And I do occasionally carry long and odd shaped cargo that could benefit from having more space.

For those guys that have it done. How difficult will it be to switch back? By the pics it doesn't look like it would take much time or effort to put the seat back in, but I haven't tried to lift mine yet either :D
