For me the deck can go in and out at abut 10min a pop
but the rear seat heavy and more bolts and lining up the seatbelts takes about 30 min to ut in or remove

Yep, the rear seats fold almost flat (maybe 5 degrees off flat). But the seats themselves take up quite a bit of space. They're also fairly heavy. The new deck weighs probably less than half what the seats do. I took mine out because I never use them anymore.

Just a personal use/preference thing.

See, now it makes more sense. It did make some before, but I could not do with it, my dog hates riding in there without the seat. I saw him the other day while my wife was driving. he actually had his paws bent over the edge of the seats (laid down seats.) It looked like he was holding on. It was funny.
I wanted to make this sort of thing for the KK, but now I know he wont like it, and he is the only one that rides back there, so... no dice.
I might think of some type of stationary kennel sort of thing though. I don't like him just floppin around back there.

Yeah I'm with JJ on this with wanting just one side. I personally would want the 1/3 side out. That way son and passenger could still cram into the back.

Also, with the "extra" bit of room under the deck, is there enough room for a second battery under there? (dreaming of a deck with an Engle fridge on it)

Thanks,
mike

If you use a glass mat battery you could mount it on the floor where your feet are supposed to go. Plenty of room to lay it down on it's side.

That's great! Perfect for hauling dogs or what have you.

Yesterday I had mine loaded down good with a square bale of peat moss, several large bags of soil and some bags of cow poop. The HD suspension handled it well......

What kind of air horns do you have in your KJ?

Congrats... I think you are officially the first person on here to end a sentence with "and some bags of cow poop"

Snowsport, (and all the others) thanks for the info and idea. I think I'm about ready to finally start this project. However just on the 35% side is all I'm doing.

How much did you all pay for the metal for the frame. Priced it at the local Do-it-Best store and it was about $13 for a 1"x3' and $25 for the 6' piece. Is that sound right? Figure I can get by with one 6 and one 3 piece.

Think the deck will be 24 x 16 (maybe 17 if it'll fit). Snowsport,I'm going to use your measurements for the leg lengths. Still need to figure out the inner mounts. (if anybody wants to offer their services for fabbing mounts I got some paypal burning a hole in pocket).

The "plan" is to mount my Engel MT45 fridge/freezer on the deck and have it run by an aux battery on the floor; or if I can figure a way for a dual battery set up in the engine bay by fabbing a cold air intake.

later,mike

yeap, needs to be able to hold the fridge (full of ice cream and cold drinks). Or bags of cow poop should the need arise. :)

The deck will be made out of wood though.

how much does the fridge weigh?? lol a wood frame will work just fine especially if you build in some angles, you should have any problems with wood

I have had over 300 lbs sitting just on my WOOD deck area with no problems, but it is cross braced and screwed together plus glued so very strong and easier to cut than steel!

wood works well but there is nothing more manly than joining steel together with fire
(manly tim Allen grunt goes here)
