Two Questions, 1) Do all KJ's have the same specs when it comes to location/mounts for the roof rails? 2) Can you get tubing slightly thinner then .120?

I want to have a friend make me a roof rack, but I think I don't need it to be a strong as a RL type. Just be able to hold 150lbs or so. I would like to save a little weight if possible.

All KJs are the same as far as mounting holes from everything I have seen. I dont think uoi could really save that much weight going to a thinner tubing. Maybe 5 lbs or something couldnt be very much I wouldn't think

hey thanks
the thing that limits weight up there really is the stock rails. if we made them out of slightly thicker pipe thank the "basket" part you should be fine. i think it will hold more than that and still not weigh you down that much. now those rock rails are a different story  toms is right though (as always ) its not going to save that much weight. the only way i could see to save alot of weight would be to make it out of aluminum but that could get price and wouldnt be as stong. plus would be a pia to make.

Alright D, I am going to work on some designs. Yeah those rails are porkers, but protection is the only area I don't mind carrying some weight.

I have the stock rails. The most I have had in the basket was about 250lbs. and there was no problems at all. But I do agree that the stock rails are the weak link.

I plan on making a cargo rack myself in the next few months. Would you mind asking your friend for a grocery of what he buys as well as dimentions to share with the group? that would be greatly appreciated.

Wow, did you also fabricate your own lights? Post a few more photos or the link to your previous post...looks very interesting.
Thanks

yes i did but i have an entire new light system that i made as well. i am trying to do a light bar that is slim lightweight and one unit.
I have had several proto types and even hired a lumen engineer to get my lighting system optimal..
