Put one of these together between last night and today.

I was thinking I could use two of the milk crates as a stand and put the shelf on top for a table when camping, so I only painted it for now.

YES! This is exactly what I have been looking for!!!

I have a 1 year old and am a flight attendant. Toss a stroller back there and there is no room for anything else.

Well Done!

Now that a little time has passed: did anyone do anything different with this project? If so, please add description and pictures. I started up a folder in my pictures section of my 'puter on this. This project is being added to my "To Do List". :D

That looks pretty good! I don't have to worry about the back seat because I don't have any! I'm thinking of making the deck removable with some type of a releasable catch. The catch would secure it when in place. But, that is something to figure out when I make the thing. Thanks for the link!!

Time does fly! I bought the tubby lil Jeeplet exactly 5 years/100,000 miles ago.

And as far as useful simple mod's goes, the shelf has been the best...

(Plus I needed room for stickers)

Location: Somewhere in Australia - or not, as the case may be.
I made one the other day - I was unhappy with supporting the front of the shelf in the little slots in the plastic trim so I made it with hinged legs which transfer the load onto the floor. The main reason for making it was to carry my recovery gear, as I use the towbar tongue upside down to suit my camper trailer and I can't open the tailgate with the trailer attached, so I need to be able to access it just through the flipper glass. Stuff stored below is only needed when we get to camp and unhitch the trailer.

Since taking these photos I have covered it with carpet and added some tie-down loops for the bungee straps to hold everything in place. I'll post more photos later.

Did you have any trouble with the rear seat not latching, I built a shelf and am having trouble getting them to latch.

Your shelf extends too far in past the rear seat brackets, either cut it down some or do what I did and cut it at the same angle as the rear seats are, so they sit flush up against the shelf.
