I made one the other day - I was unhappy with supporting the front of the shelf in the little slots in the plastic trim so I made it with hinged legs which transfer the load onto the floor. The main reason for making it was to carry my recovery gear, as I use the towbar tongue upside down to suit my camper trailer and I can't open the tailgate with the trailer attached, so I need to be able to access it just through the flipper glass. Stuff stored below is only needed when we get to camp and unhitch the trailer.

Since taking these photos I have covered it with carpet and added some tie-down loops for the bungee straps to hold everything in place. I'll post more photos later.

Looks like you have some JL Audio cables back there.

I bet youd be surpirsed, at first I made mine just bc I was bored but I leave a lot of stuff on there and its pretty easy to remove incase I need it gone

its worth a try it doesnt cost but $10 to do so even if you dont use it its no big deal

I always have so much gear in the back during the winter, this was a no brainer for me. Between all the snow board gear and work gear, it's going to be nice to separate those wet boots and outerwear from my dry gear. Really good for tailgating in the parking lot after a hard day of snowboarding too

i did it just to have a shelf in the back and now the freak'n dog loves it
lays on the shelf as i drive so he can look out all the windows sides and back

but it works really good as an extra shelf better than the factory soft roll out one tha is just useless

We borrowed your ideas and threw in a few of our own. Turned out great. We added two recessed Tie Down Anchors (HomeDepot) and also drilled holes to the side to store the rear Head Rests when the rear seat is folded down.

They are individual pieces, i cut them to fit like a jig saw puzzle, after much trial and error I got it all to fit nicely. I used two sided all weather carpet tape that you can get at Home Depot to get the pieces in place, and then used a staple gun to secure everything.
