I have looked on the forum and cant find one

So how about a gas can holder bolted to the base of the spare tire holder too open with the gate
remove the inside and reinforce the tire support bolts with a back plate to support the extra weight

Mount would be like a larger version of the cb mounts

Any one want to play devils advocate with this one :?: :?:

Do you want to run that along with the spare? If so then it would be too much weight , not so much needing to reinforce behind the gate but too much weight on the hinges. Now if only hanging a gas can holder off the rear it would not be too much heavier at all than a MTR for example

Devils advocate is done

I don't know any specific numbers but I know people who were running 265/75's on steel wheels were having trouble with the hinges sagging pretty quickly and not closing properly. If you find an average weight for that combo you probably have a pretty decent guess at the hinge's upper limit.

here is my $0.02... on the saggin hinges... if you make a mount to hold it on the drivers side it shouldn't
have that much of an impact compared to on the tire or the other side...

am i thinking correctly here?

yes to an extent, its all about the leverage, the farther away from the hinges the more leverage it will have and the more impact it will have on the hinges, thats why if you look at RL's rear bumper the tire carrier the tire isnt centered its offset towards the drivers side, which is what I did on my tire carrier too

I was looking at the same option. I tried the fitment of the can on the drivers side, but upon opening the door I realized it wasn't going to fit with enough clearance. This would be especially true if you run anything bigger than 245/75/r16 on the spare. I need to find a better option, unless I go with the dual swingout setup of the RL bumper

why not just bolt them to your roof rack?

because i have one of those cargo bags that zip shut and hold everything so the rain does soak it through
and it fits perfect in the rack...
and I just like to be prepared and carry a gas can everywhere I go you never know

I have a hitch basket but that is not practical for everyday use

Just tring to think of an outof the way place for 5 gallons of gas

now i like phxtoad's idea (http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... hlight=gas)

I may just go that route and carry water and gas

I posted that question in the general section last week and never got a response. If anyone has other ideas try them , I have tried almost everything I can think of short of driving down there!

Hmmm Missed that post. I'll post up in the local forum for TN. I'm going to use you as a POC, since you have contact info for Austin.

I've left several messages on his voice mail and PM's and e-mailed to him. No responce, I do know he had some recent injury and he had adopted my pet name for the pain meds {Happy Pills}. Like Tom we converesed on a daily basis, he went off line at the same time I went down for 4 days from an adversce reaction to my pain meds. 4 days in and out of consieces along with massive hilusionations, when I finally recovered Austin was MIA. Despite the fact I have prepaid for good from him. Thats beside the point, I consider him a friend and I'm highly concerened for his well being. It's been over 3 weeks since anybody has heard from our friendly young fabricator and LOST brother. If anyone is in his area please for many of our peace of mind stop by and see what has happened to our friend and brother. He has a youngster and a girl friend so somebody in the area should have some information. :? :(
