I built mine up from scratch. Check out my signature and follow the link for the pics of the build. I am not crazy about the way it mounts, but it has held up like a champ so far. I like it and it is super useful. If you want or need info on the parts I used just ask. |

OK, here are some technical questions about roof racks. My owner manual says the roof rack will hold 150 pounds. But I dont know if that means the roof can hold 150 or the rails can hold 150... anybody know? Also, what would allow you to carry more weight... a roof rack with a bottom so that all the weight is on the four points where the rack mounts to the roof or one with no bottom where the weight is distributed across the whole roof? My initial thought would be to have it distributed across the whole roof but then again, the rack does put the weight over the pillars so maybe that is better... Any thoughts?? |

im not positive but when i had my stock roof rails on i could sit on one of the side rails and it would hold me and I weight 165# and yes if you can make one that mounts like mine or like kjhawaii's of RL roof rack they all mount the same |

Stock plastic rails hold more static load than Jeep's rating suggests, but get moving and that same load might rip the rails off your roof. I put 300 pounds on a rack mounted to them, that was distributed evenly though. Make you're own steel mounts and either make or buy a full-size rack to weld to the mounts. RespectMyLibertay.....Does the very front section of your rack unbolt and come off? I have been toying around with an idea of mounting lights in the wind faring. Mount the lights behind the faring but almost touching it, cut holes for the lights, either put some sealer around lights/faring, or put some kind of clear covering over holes to cut wind noise. What do you think? BTW....great rack! I usually only say that to women!!!

It is a bent sheet of aluminum, the top bends over the rack but the bottom is held onto the rack with u-bolts. I was thinking of getting some spot lights and mounting them above the fairing. I think mounting them in the fairing would be fairly difficult, but would pay off in the custom/cool factor. You could cut the holes to mount the lights straight vertically, but behind the diagonal section, and fill in the between the light's perimeter and the fairing with some sort of cylinder that would fit the light in it. Just ideas. |

This isn't exactly a full length basket or anything but it's ridiculously strong and does exactly what I need it to. Plus I have about $50 invested in it.
