1996 -

There are several posts in this thread that show what other people used after they found out that harbor had discontinued them... Hope you find some T's that will work for you.

Teksupply has them, thats where I got mine after H.F. sold out.

Here

FWIW with the fence rail as a crossbar I had no choice but to bend mine; it hit the roof when the clamps were still well above the longitudinals.

And FYI I could not get the Duplicolor bedliner spray paint to stick on the tees, despite harsh cleaning and even sanding.

Going to pick up my parts this weekend. Maybe mounting the tire on the roof also. To be seen. Thanks for the idea,

So, has anyone tried this on a KK model Liberty? I have an '08 Sport with the side rails but no crossbars. I'm just not willing to spend $300+ on a set of fancy-schmancy roof rails for skis when all I wanna be able to do is toss some plywood or a ladder up on top without wrecking the roof or the rear antenna. This looks like a good option, and I would certainly be able to fabricate it myself, but I'm uncertain how the clamps will fit on a KK roof rack.

EDIT: WOW just noticed it's been nearly a year since this thread was touched. Sorry for the necro, but I really do want to do this build.

OK, Started my build. However, since this thread seems to be primarily KJ oriented, I started a new thread over in the KK tech section:

KK DIY Crossbars

If any of you "fabbers" have any suggestions, I'll gladly listen.

Thanks!

Im having a really difficult time finding some clamp-on tees to fit the bigger Renegade rails. Anyone know of any that fit?
I think this is what I need but not sure...also really expensive.

Alright. I just bought the fence top rail at Home Depot and I found the post clamps here...

http://www.discountfence.com/chainlink2/fittings6.htm

The company is about 20 mins from my house so I was able to pick the parts up and save shipping. Turns out a few of the employees are old friends.

Anyhow, I was not able to use the cross bars straight since it did hit my roof as some have said before. I do wonder if it is variance in manufacturing? No big deal, I have pretty heavy duty fence posts driven into the ground at the four corners of my garden so I just made marks on my cross bars and slid them down inside the garden posts and used them as pry bars to put a slight bend at each spot (one bend on each side). My cross bars are about .5-.75" above my roof line. The rack is back on and looks great.

And where do you buy the cross bars to attach to those rail clamps?

You can buy the crossbar at any lowes/home depot type store. It's the top rail for chain link fencing. I think it comes in ten foot lengths.

I wouldn't trust the clamps METCRD found to hold anything substantial- the ones I found like that were pretty weak when mounted. I got the ones from Teksupply, and they are much beefier. I used some eye-bolts instead of the standard bolts to provide tie down locations at the corners because none of my ratchet strap hooks will fit around the roof rail or crossbar pipes.

But nobody manufactures the whole thing? I mean the rail clamps and the crossbars all together with the exact lenght for the KJ? I don't know how to buy online those bars at Lowes. I live outside the US...

This is a do-it-yourself project, so if you can't fathom a way to get a pipe and cut it to length, you should probably just spend $200 and buy a Yakima/Thule/mopar kit that will bolt right up and fit perfectly. I'm sure there are hundreds of online retailers that will ship to your country :google:

Spent about $40 on this one. This is my first DIY for the Jeep. Used a split piece of pipe for shimming, some EVA foam from Hobby Lobby for cushion, and some hole plug from the general hardware isle at Lowes to plug the ends of the pipe. Now to find a basket to mount on top.

I haven't found the clamps to be the weak point, but rather the top rail itself has much more flex than the clamps. I need to take the bars off and give them a little more bend to add clearance between them and my roof.

The TEK supply ones look very beefy and I would use them, but these bars were quicker to get and less expensive.
