Post subject: | Who wants a winch bumper |
I live in Grand Rapids, MI and just joined. I actually have an XJ Cherokee but I heard that there was a shortage of winch-mount KJ bumpers so I figured I would as who's interested if I fab one up. Here's the one I built for my XJ http://www.greatlakes4x4.com/showthread.php?t=90474 |

Do you already have a design fabbed up or has that yet to be started? I took a gander at your link to the one you built for your XJ...nice work. I would be interested to see what you come up with....especially if it is around the same price point as the XJ bumper. |

Nice work on the XJ bumper, Look forward to seeing a 05-07 KJ version. I'm very interested, and just around the Lake near Chicago. I've been considering a number of options, but none of the existing bumpers meet all my needs. If your taking suggestions, my wish list includes: 1. integrated winch plate 2. Pull the bumper in as tight as possible to the front end, I'd rather have winch plate hang out a little and tuck the bumper in closer 3. beefy but light, I know this is contradictory, but I don't want to add 150 lbs to the front if I can get away with 100 lbs. 4. integrated turn signals, I don't care about reuse of the stock ones, just put in a pair of the industrial oval ones. 5. Like those beefy shackle tabs, I'll take two |

OK, i'm busy for a while but I'll get on it as soon as I have time. I DO plan on having the winch plate integrated as well as aux./fog lights, turn signals, two d-ring tabs, max ground clearance, and pushed back as far as possible. I've also just come up with a sweet new method for finishing (I'll post pics soon). I don't know how you guys run bumpers normally, but I know a lot of XJ guys cut out part of their grills and put the winch about 1/2" from the radiator. Would any of you want to do this for max. aproach angle? On a side note, I'll have some really sweet underbody LED rock lights done soon. Super bright, 3w draw each, and can be run over by a vehicle and still work. I'll keep you posted on what I'm working on. PS; any MI jeepers, there is a Jeep Fest aug. 22,23,24 at Twisted Trails offroad park in Copemish, MI. Here are some shots of the park. http://www.greatlakes4x4.com/showthread.php?t=96962 |

I'm interested in seeing some drawings, or a mock-up...maybe a ballpark price. Cool design on the XJ bumper you linked to. |

I'll get my hands on a KJ in a couple of weeks and then fab something up and then put it on the computer to tweak it. Then I'll make a model and put it on a KJ and post some pics. I could do some rough ideas if I get some dimensions from one of you guys though. Easiest thing I found was to sketch the dimensions, take a pic. of the paper, and email it. This would allow me to at least get some ideas going. |

If you post up a list of the specific dimensions you want, I'm sure we (LOST) could come up with the measurements for you. Keep in mind that the KJ front-end changed pretty drastically after 04. So the 02-04s will have one set of front-end dimensions, and the 05-07s will have a different set. |

I'll see if I can do a little photochop action and get some ideas. To go any further, I'll have to wait until I can actually get physical with one though. |

If I still lived in Zeeland, I'd happily bounce up your way. Maybe I'm overdue for a trip back up that way. |
