I want a BLACK interior. Hi all, right now my 06 Libby has that beige interior but i'm looking at trying to get it black. I know for the head liner I can use felt and such which won't be that hard but for the interior plastic should I try to use vinyl dye or just get a good interior paint? my goal is to be able to take some armorall to the interior and make it shine.

..Looks likes it up to me to actually give a helpful answer.. There are paints specifically designed for use on interior plastics and vinyls and such. I have never personally used any, but I have heard they work well. You can use normal spray paint on hard plastic surfaces if you prep them well. As far as carpets, seats, belts, etc.. I have no idea. There are paints designed for interior fabrics, but I dont know how well they would actually work.. Check either VHT or Duplicolor.

Chris I told Sean how great yours looks inside with the black headliner and everything , thats what got him started again on it, so now when you come up to get the arms on , he will have to come over and drool all over your interior      Don't worry we can put a bib on him before he sees it

when he's in the john i'll start stealing the plastic panels. On the upside I found a good seat option, freightliner seats which I can get $100each used. All I need is an air compressor to get them to work.

i think it would look pretty cool if you just accented black, like some of the dash panels and such. i plan on eventually going with the black on black look and thats an idea i've tossed around a bit.

Now i'm thinking something which would be cool to do is color most of the interior a black or graphite color and have a few trim pieces painted a high gloss laser blue color.

DO NOT use dulicolor i used it on my car and it lasted a whole 2 mouth before it stared pealin like crazy. i dont about other brand but i would not recomend going to pepboy or andvance for paint. go to an automotive paint store. they will help.
each can my be worth 20 buck rather then 3 but it worth every cent i did it and no my plastics look great for a year now.

Painting anything of the interior plastic requires patience and prep (as stated above).

Someone noted that you shouldn't use Duplicolor... I'm guessing you can use Duplicolor if you prep right.

There are some specialized plastic spraypaints that may or may not work well, I've never used them. There are also adhesion promoters which you might go to if you have trouble with a particular paint.

Here's an example of a very small amount of my plastic interior I painted. Clean the plastic off, sand with a fine grit paper, give it a shot of a couple of coats of primer, then sand that, then start layering on the coats of your final color.

This is an example of Rustoleum enamel found at Home Depot. Paint still looks like new almost two years later.

Bottom line is it can be done, but there are going to be many factors that can screw you up: improper prep, poor choice of paint, not giving enough time to cure before subjecting it to use and abuse etc.

It's been a long time but I'd swear my climate control knobs seemed like they took 2 months to really cure.

i used duplicolor ext trim. on my ext plastics. but i guess your paint is strong enough to endure the crazy ohio sun for 2 whole days of the year and not our weak florida tempeture and humidity along with a tropical strom( i have a one car garage two cars which will i save?) manufacture paint peals here on a 7-10 year old car less if it not roof stored.

There is always that. I come from New Mexico where every dashboard has a very large crack right down the middle of it.
