| Post subject: | New design Skid Plate |
This is my transmision skid plate design, it's based on two 5mm tubes and a 5 mm plate, I just finish the soldering no cleaning yet, I'm not professional solder and it is only arc but I think it will hold up very well, I will test for fit as solder some times twist things, and then painting, I think this is going to be far more hard to bend than only plate skids.
NEXT: I will work on the transfer case skid to mate with this one. |

It looks good - but don't forget about changing oil & filter - |

I will have to take it out to change oil and filters, but as I need to change these days, I'll do it while it's painting then I will have a few miles before take it out again, and it's only 4 nuts. Total cost of the project: Scrap 11 + 5mm plate 16 + Lugs and nuts 7 = 34 |

I like it! Nice idea and home fab. Cut a hole in it so you can access the drain plug and you won't have to drop it for the oil change. Only thing I would add is some crossmembers going from tube to tube so the center expanse of it doesn't dent as easily. we'll have to move this over to the fab section. |

I will have to put a drain plug in the transmission... I will think about it. If you look closer, there is a cross member in front, I haven't solder that part of the plate yet, do you think it will need a rear too? |

i was thinking of trying to make something like that for my jeep, never done any metal work before, but i have a couple friends who can help me with the welding. but i was wondering how much the material costs for something like this, i know steel prices vary but im not too keen on costs of different guage steel and what not, what is a round about estimate? |

Nice simple design. It should be very effective. Do you have any updates on your progress? Any finished photos? Have you had a chance to use it yet? John ];') |
