So you know how you see alot of the wranglers and whatnot in the summer going through trails and on the road with thier doors off? Well Im trying to find out a way to be able to do that yet still have my side mirrors attachted to the car, im not really concerned about the back speakers and that they wont play bc the wiring to the back is connected to the front. But anyway does anyone have any ideas? or has anyone ever done it? I would like to hear alot of comments on this too!!!

I am only posting this because you specifically asked for a lot of feedback... Otherwise I'd keep my mouth shut. If someone pulls this off and it turns out looking good, I will be impressed and praise them accordingly. And would even consider doing it myself. With that being said, the photos I've seen without the doors and the mockups of half doors have all looked aweful. I've not seen any indication that it can be pulled off and not look retarded. Please do not let that stop you from exploring the options, but keep in mind that you may not want to do anything you can't reverse until you get a good end result. |

Thanks man I was looking into doing something about having a tube 1/2door thing goin on. plus fabricate something to fill in the awful looking inside frame where the door is. |

I think any good tube bender could pull it off. Then you'd have to have someone make a skin (metal or cloth-I'd do cloth). Put some pockets on the inside, and get some wrangler style mirrors that unbolt and and can be replaced. Won't necessarily be easy but a lot of really cool stuff never is. Just my 2cents. |

Considering that you would lose the outer skin of the door and how it covers everything behind it, I feel the best way to do this would be to make half doors form the orignals. Gut the door but Retain the upper portion of the door and just cut the door down to where the arm rest is and lose the big factory mirrors. Half doors would at least cover up the jamb areas so it doesn't look out of place. Now to find a DS patriot blue door. (though the paint would most likely be destroyed in the process anyway) |

I still think it could be covered up well enough with tubing. I'd start from scratch and go from there. Using an existing door seem like too much could go wrong and if you ruin the door you are done and have to find another. |

quicj search of car-part.com in my area revealed that the ones available are pricey. I can't afford to chop up a $400 door so that idea will have to wait. |

yea but how much would it be to go to a place where they have a tube bender and get it custom fabricated? probably more than a cheap set of doors from the junkyard |

Maybe I am lucky because I have 3-4 professional local guys to do it, and that many again that are local fellow enthusiasts that would help me do it myself. I can guarantee that they'd be comparable to the cost of junkyard doors, and you wouldn't have to worry about screwing up a door and having to buy another. I am talking tube doors with a soft top style covering, not paneling. |

I say do it.  If it's your daily driver and you can figure out a way to survive, do it. If it isn't your daily driver, even more of a reason to do it. If you're in anyway mechanically inclined, do it. If you have the time to figure everything out and still live your life, do it. Only your imagination can stop you. Ok, enough of my motivational speech.  I would if I could, but I cant, soooo.....
