Decided to finally add some good parts to the Libby so of course, I looked for some Chevy parts......
Seriously, I happen to have a receiver that came off my old Chevy S10 blazer and decied a month or two ago to slide it up under there to see how it measured along the frame rails...bingo, the side mouting plate were almost a perfect match. Since I'm layed off, might as well use what I got instead of buying a Libby unit.
Now all I needed was some heavy angle for mounting, coworker took care of that with some scrap angle and cut me couple pieces ( pic 1). The pass side had to have a piece cut out for exhaust clearance, driver's side just needed holes cut. I made couple patterns from paper, marked my holes, then drilled. Note to self, make sure the angle is lying in proper mounting position or you have to drill more holes...DOH!!! Mounted the angle, then slid receiver up and into position. Marked where it needed to mount, then proceeded to weld it up. Of course, with welding comes high heat and distortion, had to do some tweaking once I tried to remount, but got it on there. Fits great although it sits just a bit back, but my hitches are longer and my trailers have longer tongues. Only really thing I wished would have been changed is the angle to be longer so I could move the receiver back a bit and have more welding area for the side plates of receiver, but it will pull my utility trailer and camper if needed.
I got a Hoppy circuit gaurdian trailer light hookup from member JPaul last fall, hooked it up also. Removed rear pass panels, pulled out brake harness, separated connector, plugged in the other two connectors, replaced saftey lockes, wired white wire to body panel, then ran red wire under trim panels to the front, through firewall and hooked to pos terminal on battery. There is a large rubber plug on the floor, just cut a slice in it, then ran the trailer plug through it, down over to the center of receiver. May add brake wire in future if we ever pull our camper along with a RV 7 plug.
Receiver and angle.
