Post subject: | Budget front bumper!! |
This is my version of a budget bumper and clearance adder. I used a stock TJ bumper and adapted to fit and be solid onto the front of my KJ. If you want detailed info and pics of the process I have them. Just PM me. The finished bumper. ![]() ![]() I used my stock bumper to fill in the gap between the grill and the new bumper. Could have been a cleaner cut but I don't have a dremel, just a razor blade. ![]() Any comments are welcome good or bad. |

The hooks are there thats what I used as the lower bracket mounting point/bolts. ![]() I'm also planing on a front hitch that will come out of the bumper so I don't loose the clearance. |

Here are the rest of the pics. This took me a couple of days, but it could easily take only a couple of hours but I had to figure it all out. ![]() ![]() ![]() The top mount for the bumper. ![]() The underside of the top mount. ![]() I had to remove the factory stud, then drill a new hole. ![]() this is the bolt for the new hole ![]() Had to drill a new hole here for the tow hook bolt. ![]() This is the lower mount. Bolts went through the frame rail, strait into the tow hooks. I added a plate that extends towards the back about 4in for extra support for the tow point. probably overkill but... ![]() My stock bumper that i trimmed to fill in the gap between the grill and the bumper. also for the turn sigs. Currently working on a skid to protect the lower part of the radiator and the wiring harness that is exposed now. |

Could you put hooks on the top like a TJ? I have a front hitch so Im not sure if this would work. |

Not sure, you would have to bore out the second bolt hole on the top mount. I don't think the sub-frame would be strong enough to handle pulling from there, but if you have a front hitch you probably wouldn't be pulling from them anyway. Finished the front skid. This only took about an hour. Just used a "C" clamp, a saw horse, and a rubber mallet. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

that diamond plate is a really nice touch, it should be heavy enough to protect your radiator from protruding limbs and what not! |

I got the bumper for free from a friend and the tow hooks are the factory KJ hooks without the factory brackets. The bolts and steel were about $20 at Lowes. The diamond plate was about $30. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
