OK, Rescu2000, I like your rear bumper by the way. Here's the first 3 pics of the base for the rear flares. The first one is the rear door, yes, I found a mud puddle yesterday!. I only have the top part done so far, still have to bend the bottom part to match the body lines and weld together.
Image
Next is the back half, I had to notch out around that black rubber plug (not sure what it's for yet but I'll figure it out) . I will be installing rivnuts in the factory pushpin holes to bolt them in to. There is no real way to get to the back side to put nuts on and just use bolts.
Image
This is a pic of both halves just kindof held on with one bolt each where I could get to them. Was able to balance a nut on my finger and shove it in the hole ... ... ... (That's what she said) :ROTFL: and then screw a bolt in for the pictures.
Image

They will mimic the lines of the front flares at the bottom and at the rear. I decided to make them almost full flares VooDoo. I will split them at the door. I hope this will turn out the way I see it in my head. If not, I'll cut 'em up and start over. At the rear they will turn in and meet the body just ( 1/4" ) above the rear bumper. This should allow me some flexibility when ( if ) I get around to making a rear bumper. This is a slow, time consuming, custom, hand job. Any more fab work on the next set of fronts has been put on hold till I get these done. 8)

By the way I think those fender flares on the rear are going to look great. I am glad you went with the full look.

Are you going to make them have flat/square joint faces so they line up tight-ish, like the old plastic ones.

Exactly, In the 3rd pic you can see where the split will be. The ends will be flat stock. It looks like at that point on the fender they will be out 3 1/2".

Any Idea how far up you can trim the wells before you hit the welds/structure?

how about a cut/roll like they do On XJ's?

If you look at the front part of the opening and follow the line of the door you can see where I cut out the front of the opening. I haven't cut the rock rails back yet, so you can see how much I took out. I am still going to finish trimming along the top of the door opening even with the door. At the top of the opening I can still take out everything up to the first bend in the bulge over the tire before getting in to the tub. That should give me another 1 1/2' - 2" at the top.

There is a whole thread on my fenderwell mods here somewhere.

The rubber plug fills a hole that the fixture pins go in when they frame the car in body.

Lookin good so far. So is bending the flat stock easier than what you did on the front? I recall you cut small pieces and welded them together to make the angles.

I didn't end up bending other than just matching the curve of the body. The arc was cut out of one piece of steel. I ended up buying a full 4'x8' sheet of 10ga sheet metal and another full sheet of 16ga for the skin. Ya, that trying to piece together a bunch of smaller pieces didn't go too good. So, I still have a LOT of sheet metal left to work with and what I will call the base plates are cut out of the 10ga sheet.

So I laid some of it out today and tacked it together, then took it out and held it up to the KJ for pics. Just the rear portion of the rear fender.

Terry, you want just the base pieces? Whatcha gonna do? Steal my business? J/K, If that's all you want we can talk and figure out something for that. You still got your towbar attachments? Maybe we can work something out for a full set?
