I just realized that I never posted the fab work on my roofrack. I posted some pics in another thread but have since moved the pics into different folders on photobucket and they don't show up anymore. So this is a couple years old, but new post and pics!

Thanks for all the compliments. I wanted something different and couldn't find what I wanted so mixed up 2 or 3 different ideas and this is what I ended up with. I brought the bottom bar all the way forward to keep any glare from the lights out of the sunroof. Wasn't too sure about it at first but it kindof grew on me once the lights were mounted.
The spoiler on back was put on before the rack and I just left it on. It's made by Lund, same as the window air deflectors

Go get one! I use to take a bunch of politiking signs for the 3/4' angle that they are mounted on for practice. 8) No piece of metal is safe when I'm doing a project. We just had a new central A/C put in and I robbed some cabinet panels off the old one for stock! :D

Great work! I really like the way you extended the front of the rack for the light mounts.

I am going to attempt this same rack design for my 2011 KK because I really hate how all of the ones you can buy have the light bar so far back that they really dont do a whole lot but I really like the way you put the light bar a lot closer to the front. I would totally buy one if you were to sell them. Im so jealous.

Did you use aluminum or steel?

Almost everyone used some sort of steel. Boiler made up some cool looking aluminum ones but they weren't inexpensive. Home improvement conduit is the favorite I think. Many of us can weld steel but don't have the tig welder or the spool gun mig to weld aluminum.

I am currently in negotiations with a shop to make these racks for me since I don't have a garage to work out of anymore. I should be able to confirm plans in the next few weeks for this.

Closer the lights sit to the windshield the more glare you'll get from them

Wow that was a fantastic DIY roof rack, superb welding skills you got there. How's the performance so far? did you encounter any problems when loaded?
