So are all the wheel well mods we are able to do on the KJ just pounding down the pinch weld building flat flares or going nuts like KJwildman and cutting out the pinch weld? Has anyone tried or thought about cutting the fenders like the XJ guys do? I mean actually cutting metal fender open wider?

our fenders (the metal part) are actually very non intrusive

pop the flares off and you'll see what I mean

pounding the pinch is pretty much step 1 as Chrysler shouldn't have extended it into our wheel space as limited as it is to begin with

some trim the fender liner or cut part of the front/rear bumpers off to gain some clearances

Yep... and maybe some SFA action.

I don't really want to fit 35's though that would be bad booty. And I keep going back and forth between doing and SFA and just upgrading my CV's and getting one of the steel diffs from JBA

Have to remember the Liberator had a ton of other things done to it besides just "hacking" at the fenders. Stronger diff, different spindles etc.
"Hacking" into the body of the KJ is a bit different than the XJ. The way the KJ is built is all structural each piece interacts with another to build a very solid full frame. Thats why Liberty's do so well in crashes/rollovers. Cutting out parts will weaken that structural support system.

?? ??
going nuts?

35's? who's nuts?

Everything I cut out was either nonstructural, or after I cut, I rewelded new reinforcements or 10 ga sheet into place over the trimmed out area (rear of the front wheel well). I truly feel I have not affected the structural integrity of the unibody at all. (...yet  .. Somebody stop me before I cut again :ROTFL: oh yeah ... Tom started it, he MADE me cut my hood! :-)r ) The rear area of the rear wheelwells is just outer sheetmetal skin. The front part of the rear wheelwell is where there is nothing to trim and you have to actually cut in to the body and reweld because of the door. The front part of the rear wheelwell is where the interference is. Because of the rear doors you can only remove about 1-1/4" or less and you are into where the door closes. Darwin, I have more pics if you want to see. Even after my "radical" fender well trim I don't see any way to put anything larger than what I have on. In the front at full lock, stuffed, I get a slight rub on the inside back at the "framerail". I don't really have any rub on the sway bar. That is with stock steelies and 1-1/4" spidertrax. I HAD some rub at full stuff at the top of the rear (some trimming I missed) at The Badlands. I have since taken care of that. It has been said on this forum before by more knowledgable people than me... you need to move the rear axle back to go any larger in the rear AND you need about 6" of lift in to go any larger. ( give me time )

Hey Wildman, how much empty space did you find behind the metal, at the bottom, behind the front tire? WOW, does that make any since at all? I found about 1.5 to 2" on mine. You are right, there is space to be had if your careful of what your doing.

And is why a KJ is stronger and more rigid than an XJ by several factors. XJ's can be rather floppy: the KJ has been cialisized.
