Figured I'd put this here, Mods, feel free to move it.
Installation of Aftermarket Lights on Stock Bumper.
so I had a cheap pair of fogs and just mounted them to the flimsy plastic cover that DC calls a "bumper", and it worked great.
But I upgraded to bigger 8" lights and
decided (thanks LI guys, hah) the plastic wasn't going to be sturdy enough.
So on a trip to Home Depot for other reasons and I came an "L" Bracket and said "this might work". It only cost like two bucks, so I bought two and said lets see. Not wanting to drive back home and check it out, I took my bumper off in the home depot parking lot, yes I got some strange looks, and one good samaritan who had asked if I needed help, I guess there are still nice people in this world.
Anywayyyyy, the bracket I got kinda looks like this (this is not the bracket I used)
The short end being two inches and the long end being four inches.
Here's a link to remove the front bumper,
http://www.ehow.com/how_5709455_install ... berty.html- but I'm sure many of you know how to do it already, after being told it was extremely easy, I just went for it. No research. On my 07' it was two bolts, two rivets. Should be two more reusable rivets in the wheel well, but I lost those a long time ago.
I grabbed
-two bolts
-four washers
-two lock washers
-two nuts
I believe it was a 3/8ths bolt.
After removing the front bumper, it will look like this. (this is from a Renegade with the factory fog lights)
thanks candpliberty for the picI took the bracket and bolted the longer side (4") to the frame of the Liberty. I used the holes that were already in the frame. The two holes closest to the center. (To the left of the barcode on the driver side in photo)
sorry for the crappy cell phone pics. Here is the lights mounted to the brackets before the plastic shell
Here is from below.
If you don't have tow hooks, or choose to take them off you can use the larger hole that the hooks are covering. I just chose to use the smaller hole. a little more difficult but I was able to do it relatively quickly.
I measured where the top hole would be, and put the plastic bumper back on. then I just drilled(read:poked a hole with a screwdriver) in the plastic shell where the holes in the brackets are, put the lights through, and thats it!
And this is how I wired them up...
