Well, since I have been working on it I figure it is time to finally post some pics of it. I have been working on my own design for a rear bumper and tire carrier. I do not have the carrier started yet but the majority of the bumper is done. It is still a bit crude but you will get the idea. Maybe, lol.

Here is the general idea:
Image
Here is the passanger cut we did. Much easier with a plasma than a grinder, lol.

Image
Drivers side cut.

Image
Now that is is cut we put in the new brackets that we made up. Then we placed the backbone for the new on.

Image
Here is where we finally decided to place it. We put the old corners on to see if somehow we could reuse them...yeah....that idea was trashed much like the old bumper :)

Image
The new bumper is out a little past where the old one was but I want the bumper hit and not the tire first...although that is still yet to be seen.

Image
Next we made up a new license plate box and cut then welded it into place.

Image
We installed the new hitch and got the extra braces on.

Image
One of the last pics I have taken.

Now this morning on my way to work I was rear ended by a Toyota Tacoma...me...0 damage ;) It...not so lucky but since neither one of us were hurt we went our separate ways. Hitch went under her front bumper and cut it, the rest was her bumper against mine and you cant even tell on mine. On hers there were a few scratches but none for the worse for wear.

I have some latches and been eyeing a couple different hinges. Not sure way I will go yet with the hinge however, when I have that figured out I will continue the tube steel around the sides to protect the flanks. Toss on some sheet metal and then either Rhino or Line X it and I should be good to go.

What do you guys think? The two holes from the brackets will be filled with some tow hooks and I will also be incorperating some backup lights since our stock lights suck.

Well that is it for now. Another day another dollar and yet another project.

I am also looking for a M101 or a M416 trailer to work on, lol. I will be posting a Jeep Tent for sale soon so if anyone is interested keep an eye out. It will be posted in about 2-3 weeks.

Cheers.

NIIIIIICE, I LIKE IT! Good job, Simple and , as you already proved I guess :-)r Very Sturdy !!!! A little effort goes a long way. Can't wait to see it finished off on the ends. It takes a while I know, I started working on these dam fenders seems like a year ago. Keep pluggin away at it and don't get in a hurry! Custom is ALWAYS better!! :JEEPIN:

This morning on my drive in I passed the woman that hit me. She was going a LOT slower, lol. Looks like she tried to clean up her Toyota too, you only see the cut marks from the hitch not the dust/imprint from the actual bumper.

I figure maybe another month or so. We are going on vacation soon to get away for a bit. I am SOOOOOOO looking forward to that. People in my office are driving me nuts. This morning I didn't even get to put my KJ in park and I had a coworker pissing and moaning and trying to get in my KJ. I was ready to run her you know what over. I mean seriously, I am not even PARKED YET!!! Oh well.

Well, back from the vacation and finally have some real food in my stomach. I think I lost 15 pounds on that trip. Anyway, the hinge came in and looks great! It will be going on this Fri Night along with the base of the tire carrier. I am still looking for 2 Jerry cans and a hi-lift jack. Several cardboard models made of the corners and I think we have it narrowed down.

FYI, the hinge is from:
http://comp4x4.com/xcart/product.php?productid=1

Great group of guys and a very solid product. I got the hinge in roughly 2 days but they did ship it priority mail which was awesome.

Expect some pics next weekend. This weekend is more or less shot, I trimmed trees and worked on a few odds and ends. Time for a few beers and some dead animal flesh. :CAMPING:

Still to come...Jerry cans, corners and some plate to cover various areas. Otherwise I think it is coming along pretty well. :)

Well, I finally got around to finishing it, lol. I took off Friday and hammered out 99% of it then Saturday I installed some finishing touches and painted. I think it looks pretty good.

Nice! Only question I have is... does the tire carrier and jeery can mount kinda lean back or is the driveway?

It is the driveway. They are straight well the can holder does lean towards the back for drainage.

You could also cut a hole for a padded toilet seat on the jerry can holder and have a mobile necessary station right at hand!

Nice work on the bumper!

You should look up the bumper dumper. It's a toilet seat that mounts to your hitch. You can even buy the tent :CAMPING: that goes around it for privacy. :ROTFL:
