I know that there are a lot of talented people out there that know how to use there steel. (:O)) Anyways, I am looking for someone out there that can make me something that can be simply bolted on the top of an 2004 Sport (thinking on the rails) that I can just put a wheel up there. I am not looking for anything fansy. Just thinking to peices of steel straight across that have clamps at the end and something welded in the middle to be able to put lugs to hold it there.

Thanks

Hmmm a design challange. I love design challenges. Unfortunately I'm way busy at the moment. I'll keep monitoring this - hopefully in a week or two I can dream something up...

I have a single piece of diamond plating left from my front bumper project. I'm gonna see if I can fab something up, seeing as I want my spare on the roof but don't want a roof rack. I want to get some jerry gas cans for the stock spare mount.

Aren't you just looking for a rack without sides?

The Renegade folk have been waiting for someone to build us a rack that would hang from beneth the side rails and only be the bottom of the rack, since the tupperware on top provies the sides.

I'll try to dream something up from a design standpoint. However, I don't have the facilities to fabricate (except for a mock-up out of wood).

I will do it for you... Take a look a few posts down in the Fab section and look at the clamps I made for the light bar. I am going to be making my own roof rack set up this weekend for a high lift and shovels up there.

Yours will be a piece of cake.

I picture a X shape design. 4 clamps (2 per side) and a nice plate with 3 studs welded in the middle. Use 1 1/2" square tube. I can to it no prob. PM me and Ill give you my cell number.

Why don't you just throw the tire on the roof as is, and strap it down? I throw a 33 x 12.50 Bogger up there all the time (with steel rim = 99.5 lbs., at 15 psi) with no problem. I use the Mopar cross bars (only 1), about 34" from the back (!), and put a strap across the back, with a bungee to hold the strap 1/2 way up the tire. Works great. Throwing it up there at 5:30 a.m. to go wheelin, really wakes you up too!
