Well i decided to finally make a shelf for the cargo are of my jeep. It was easier than expected and took about an hour to actually build.

Its very strong, i put 100lbs on it and it didn't flex at all. All in all not bad for $24. if you're looking to do something similar and want details just let me know and I'll put up dimensions and stuff

I started with a piece of ply wood 3/4" Thick (you can use any size you want) Cut to these specs ------v

You will also need a 1" dowel rod, 1" pipe clamps (4), and carpet of your choice to cover
Cut dowel rod to 45.5"
You will need to use the pieces you cut off to glue to the underside near the back seats to level out the shelf (as the drawing shows)

I hope you are not carrying anything on top while riding the jeep. It looks nice, though.

 burch

That thing is way too clean looking, you did a really good job and it's not a horrid idea either

people tend not to try to steal what they can't see

maybe it should be locked cause it's too nice looking and people might get IDEAS and start doing it  fancypantsy jeepers :P

Yeah, really nice! i might have to do one up over winter when work gets slow...

I'm probably put something like this on each corner, so i could put a cargo net over the top incase i ever put stuff up there while driving...

i''ll probably put a small lip around the outer edges, but still going with the tie-down hooks. found them for $4.50 for a 2pack at fleet farm this morning...

but my trip there was a big FAIL anyways... 3 out of 4 items i bought need to be returned for one dumb reason or another. owell. i like fleet farm

when work slows down over winter, and i have time... i would like to build it. but i'd also like to make it lightweight, instead of a 3/4" board. i'm thinking aluminum frame, then i can use a thin board across the top. lighter weight is always good. hmmm....
